These are the metric Pistons that I turned to accept the imperial rings I had, I knew they would not seal the greatest! Hence why I am swapping out the Pistons now, but I obviously did something right on # 5 and 6!

Oh, OK, now I understand better. I hope this one lasts better for you. One of these days, we will have to meet in the middle at Yellowstone and then do some wheeling. Wonder if I need shots to go to Canada

Tore down the stroker today, firstly found this!
A bunch of bad bearings! Looks like this tear down was timed just great!

Weighed all my con rods, the set that was in mort is on the right.

I would be happy with those weights except in this pic you can see some issues.

The 2 far right rods, have the small end off centre a bit, and the far left has a massive balance pad on the big end and about the same size on the small end, what this tells me is that since it weighs the same as the rest it probably has less metal in the centre beam than the rest making it weaker.

They are all the same casting number 707, even though the one on the left looks much finer and not as grainy. The other 2 sets have casting number 352 and there are a few that have issues with them to, but I could come up with a set of 6 that are flawless and balanced perfectly, I still have to build a rig to check the balance on the rods, but I doubt that one on the far left could be brought close to the rest.

Or I could mix casting numbers and get a good set as well, my research on the casting numbers has not really led to an answer on which casting is stronger, some people say there is no difference between the two, some say the 707's are stronger.

Anyone have any info on this?? Opinions?

What kind of oil are you using? Those bearings don't look good

I've been using 10-40 quakerstate, toying with the idea of switching to synthetic

I am not sure I like synthetic. I switched to it in my Subaru with turbo. Wasn't making it, even though it is recommended now. I switched back to Valvoline Racing oil and added Power Punch. World if difference in the turbo and VVT function, which works off oil pressure

I've been on the fence too, especially since the 4.0l is flat tappet

Racing oil is made for flat tappet engines, since many of then have flat tappet cams with high lifts

Here you can see better pics of the defects.

I have chosen the best from the 12 352 casting rods, the 707's only had 2 good rods out of the 6 and the 2 good were no better than the ones I picked from the 352's
Now I can pick the lightest one and start cleaning it up!

I did lots today but only took the one picture

Yes that's Mort's block in the sink, honed all the cylinders, have some scoring in a couple but not too worried about it.

All 6 Pistons are now within .1 grams of each other.

Also cleaned the block and got it ready for reassembly, just need to get a rear seal. And have to order a set of arp connecting rod bolts so that I can start balancing the con rods.

Ok so here are the Pistons,

As you can see they are all very close in weight now

This was the lightest and you can see not much has been done to it, all edges have been softened and that's really it.

And this was the heaviest, I had to remove 7 grams to get this one to weight, as you can see I had to remove quite a bit.
