    Default Spark Interfierence, Solutions?

I have been getting spark interference with my HAM and CB radios since I installed them. With the engine off they are crystal clear, well the Ham is.

I just installed a dual battery setup and swapped all my accessories to the new battery, but I did not relocate my aux fuse box that happens to be right on top of the coil.
I made an aluminum shield and it is better but still pretty noisy with the engine on.

Here is a short video of the noise: http://www.nuveeo.com/5537687 the first half is with engine on and the second half is off.

Any ideas to completely remove the crackle? It is driving me nuts!

That where you take ground straps to the exhaust? No I have not done much... The aluminum shield was my first try at a fix, it helped but I want it better.

This is a great source of mobile amateur operation, specifically how to make it better...

They do make universal noise suppressors for the Alt and coil , most auto part stores should have them , I might evenhave a couple but there cheap and easy to hook up.check out this site for some examples

Actually I have one of those laying around so I threw it in and got rid of 90% of the noise, I wired my ext speaker so I can now listen while on the freeway. Tomorrow I go on a wheeling trip and will find out how good it works.

While traveling in KCMO and yaking on the local 146.94 in the mid '80's, an elder operator who always complained about other peoples RFI from "their" mobile complained about mine. When I told him he was incorrect, he became very indignant explaining of his years of licensed operation and his expanse knowledge of mobile operation including the fact that he, himself was mobile at that very moment with a "clean signal".

When I explained to him that I did not have any spark plugs in my diesel (mechanical pump and injectors, before the ECM style), the repeater became silent.

The moral of the story, mechanical diesels have little if no RFI. Alternator whine from time to time, which is an easy cure. Ah, the good ol' days!
