Agreed. The last tires i took off were 16 years old, but they had plenty of tread. They still did great on the trails, but since i drive mine on the street, they had to go. If they were trail only, i would still be using them.

    I agree, to an extent.

the PITA factor was almost VERY significant on the last one when it started losing air. Really don't understand how I made it back to camp. Was at the very bottom of 3 rated trail, trying to climb up and out on a 4. If I climbed out of the 4, smooth roads for 1 mile back to camp. I heard it leaking and checked it out. Decided my best bet was the 3 I came down. After a 7 pt 180 I cleared the 3 and had about 2 miles back to camp on good roads.

If the radio was up, I would have gotten stuck on the 4 and had an interesting recovery to say the least. No where to change the flat and it was just me out there at the moment. They may have a few rides left, but not many. looking back at those pics, only one of them is starting to crack. They've got a few rides left, I'll just have to keep my full spare ready to go.

Got my door signs in (the ones I had were too tall for the xj door). Also replaced my giant starter fuse that blew when trying to figure out how to wire my light switches after dash removal. Traced all those wires and got them working. Also figured out why my third brake light wasn't working.

worked on steering gear bracket and ordered stiffeners

also discovered water in my husky mat on pass floor. I'd suspect driver door leaking before pass door. also suspect heater core. will check levels and report back. really don't feel like ripping carpet out

Swapped out battery and alternator last night, popped the rear diff cover today and after 215k all is looking well. Now for some cleanup and fresh oil.

Been an interesting night. Took the xj (yes, it's decorated) to look at Christmas lights about an hour from home. Sooo, about 30 minutes in its starting to pull to the left a little. It progressed quickly and I pulled off. Yep, left front wheel warm. So we decided to trek home. Stopped a couple times to let it cool then it let go after grabbing some food at a gas station. Routed to back streets from then on and never used the brake pedal. It may be a bit more worn but the ebrake got some use tonight! Don't worry I was easy on it... no matter how everyone behind me felt. Took 3 hours to get home but so glad we made it on its own capacity. Never dull owning a jeep!

I just went through the same thing. Turned out to be the grommet where the radio antenna enters was rotted.
One more part and I'll have a new Jeep

Got the front end of the 93 in the air and supported and began front axle removal.
Was trying to get the front axle to drop far enough for the coils (and 2" spacers) to drop out, but no luck. Only thing still connected are the control arms and the driveshaft. Was hoping to drop the coils before I work on disconnecting the control arms, but will work on it another day.

I also pulled the shafts out of the '99 Dana 30 that's going under the 93 and was not pleased with what I saw. I really need to open the diff, however I don't suspect it will be nearly as clean as the rear axle was.

Thanks Nicky. I have a hard plastic piece right under the antenna that looks to be in good shape.

also just did cowl intake, but I don't think that could be it, all seals and cowl itself seem to be in good shape, save for a small crack on the front passenger corner of the cowl.

thought about heater core as I was messing with the AC last time I drove it. Had some rain since I parked it and wasn't wet at all yesterday.

Now I'm headed to hardware store for some grade 8 bolts to finish my steering gear support

nope... it really appeared to be metal. Maybe crap that accumulated in the axle tube that the oil picked up as I pulled it out, or at least that's what I am hoping.

kinda what I thought as well, looks like some rust scale flaked off the tube. I wouldn't worry about it, no way the diff is that funky
