Changed the oil. Again. Turns out my 200,000 mile engine doesnt like synthetic. Went wheeling this weekend and people behind me reported slight oil smoke. Whoops. So back to conventional until it blows up.

Yeah, I have found too that older motors don't like synthetic. Leaks out the gaskets

No problems woth gaskets. I figured there was a chance this engine already has a little bit of blowby. Ive got a crate engine on standby for whem this one gives up.

Decided to make taillight with LED lights.

    Ordered LED lights from Amazon

AMBOTHER Oval 6'' 22 LED Trailer Lights Red Stop/Turn Signal/Brake/Marker/Tail LED Light, Flush Mount for Truck Trailer Trail Bus 12V Red (Pack of 4)

2.5" Round LED Light Side Marker- Two in One Reflector Light [Polycarbonate Reflector] [13 LEDs] [Rubber Grommet] [IP 67] for Trailers - 4 Red and 4 Amber

cut, fold, some filler, sanded, paint and assembled

    parking lights on

bought 18W white LED light (18 pcs of 1W LEDs) as backup light and temporarily mounted under rear bumper

will mount them on roof rack after.

As I read, original backup bulb is 21W, so I do not need a relay and dedicated power to the 18W backup LEDs. Am I correct?

You are correct Od. Nice looking light box too. Did you get your signal light to blink?

Scooped up some wing windows and a vacuum canister from a parts Jeep today. Vacuum canister is going on the shelf as a spare part and at least the wing window is going on the driver's side. NOt sure what I'll be able to use from the passenger side unit to refresh the driver's side unit.

Anyone know where to get parts for the wing windows? The Passneger side one I got is still tight but could use new seals and the driver's side one needs an overhaul.

    Head light upgrade

Hello - I recently installed the headlight harness upgrade kit from K-Suspension on my 2000 XJ and I am running the stock head lights. What kind of headlight upgrade can I get that will work nicely with the harness upgrade? Iíve heard of H4 conversion and silver star but Iím not sure what that is. Can someone give me a suggestion as what direction I should go? Itís a daily driver and is all stock.

    Thank you!

Yes, the H upgrade is the way to go. You will need to get new housings to do it. I had to enlarge the hole in the housing bucket to do it. Once there there are options. You can go with IPF Fat Boys that will give you lots of light, or HIDs, but you will loose your bright light function. Or you could go with LEDs, but be advised not all LEDs are created equal. You will want the Phillips bulbs for that. They have to have the small chips in the exact same position as the filaments on regular bulbs to work right

What do you mean by I will need to get new housings? Do the IPF Fat Boys plug and play with the new harness? What does H mean (I assume harness)?

Right now you have sealed beam headlights. They are the entire bulb. An H4 housing is one that accepts an H4 bulb, which is already brighter than what you have now. The best ones are the Euro style which give you a projector headlight type beam, with a cut off so you don't blind others. One I would recommend and will get myself is the Hella housing. I have some cheaper ones and they need to be replaced. Anyway, once you have the H4 housings, you can go with any of the H4 aftermarket upgrades and yes, your current harness will plug in to those bulbs

H = H4 when you hold down the SHIFT key for too long.

As Steve said your current headlight is a housing and bulb in one, H4 bulbs are removable from the rear of the housings so you will need the H4 housings for your Jeep should you decide to upgrade to that style of bulb.
I went with LEDs on one of my XJs and the low beams were a vast improvement over stock even with the stock harness, I may go with H4s on my other XJ as the Hella H4 Conversion is about the same cost as the LED headlights I purchased previously.
