Default Sanity check - tire and lift chart

    Time for tires.

Clean '01 XJ Limited, 206k, and may sell it before too long. 3" all around with ZJ V8 coils + 1" spacers, S-10 bastard pack, take-off Sahara shocks, and older 16" Wrangler wheels with 1" spacers that convert from 5x4.5 to 5x5. Gears are stock 3.55. Currently 245 75 16. Speedo reads 3mph higher than actual speed, which I've gotten used to.

Not wheeling, want something capable though, and a little bigger without stuffing the wheel well completely full. Budget is more like Mastercraft AXT than BFG = 125 per tire at most.

What's would you folks suggest for larger, but not bring about any required modifications with gearing, cutting, or excessive wear and tear?

Thanks for the suggestions. Not my area of expertise.

I'd suggest some craigslist wrangler take-offs since you're running 5x5 pattern and looking to stay budget friendly. (sell? ) Many folks buy new fancy shmancy pavement pounder Jeeps and sell very capable MT 31/32s. usually you'll see wheels and tires together so don't buy rims if you haven't already.

my 31s stuffed pretty damn well before I got trigger happy with a cut-off wheel on the sheet metal. I recommend a little fender trimming. puts a big smile on your face

Thanks. The wheels on there now, plus the spare, were acquired that way and has some Yokohama something-or-others on them. They're worn out now. I didn't realize the lug pattern difference until I got them home.

If I didn't want to cut, look for 30's?

Man if you're not wheeling it, no need to worry about cutting or tire size really. you could run 33s with the right backspacing - might rub LCA a tad a full lock without the right BS but would look great.

265/75/16 didn't rub anything stuffed. but you're not stuffing it.....

another thought, proper bumpstops will keep tires out of the fenders as well

also Rubicons came with more aggressive tread
