    Default The "Gold Bond" build...

Because it chaps my ass!! LOL!! And you know that you can relate!

I have every intention to populate this thread with the history and progress of my build. However, I want to begin with my aggravation with choosing a battery.

I've searched this and other XJ sites for what battery I should put in this beast to revive it.

I've considered Optima, but armed with the knowledge that quality has deteriorated with the move to Mexican production while maintaining the same price, leaves me disinterested.

I've considered Remy, as they're made in the USA and the Intimidator 9A34M is a deep cycle with 970 CCA and 785 CA, but it's an online order and the shipping puts the cost around 190.00. Which isn't bad, and I may go that route.

I've looked at Odyssey and the CCA/CA don't match the Remy at a 240.00 tag.

I've considered Exide, but the battery with 880 CCA, which was the PURE LEAD DT ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE AGM, was rebranded as the Northstar and is 290.00+

The Duralast Gold has 800CCA/1000CA and is 150.00...

I looked at Diehard and wasn't sold and I don't shop at Walmart, so that's not even a possibility.

And, having taken the time to write all that out, I've decided to give the Remy a shot. We'll see how it pans out.

I did some wrenching today, but didn't get any pix. Tomorrow is another day.

I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say.

I bought a couple of Optima blue tops a year ago and have no complaints yet. Got eight years out of the old ones when they grenaded from a short in the positive cable

Thanks for the input, guys!! I was leaning towards Remy, but ease of access and the fact that I'm going to drop the engine in at some point tomorrow, has me leaning towards Duralast Gold. 5 year (3+2) warranty. 800CCA and 1000CA for 150.

Luckily, the battery is the only item that I've been this indecisive about.

Until the lift/suspension upgrade in the spring. 0.o

Figured I'd just keep to this thread...
Engine is in and all connections have been made. Has a crank/no start issue that I'll address after this question.

Does anyone know where/what this plug goes to? It was never plugged into anything.

I think that it may be for the CDN daytime running lamp connection. That's the only thing that I can come up with. Would a USA XJ be harnessed for a CDN connection?

Thanks for the reply Steve. It has never been connected. I've searched everywhere and the only thing that I can come up with is the CDN daytime running lamp set-up. As it wasn't connected before, it didn't impede the operation of the Jeep in the short amount of time that I drove it, before discovering that the "new to me" 99 XJ that I had just bought, had a severely cracked head.

I finished the install of the new reman'd ATKDA37 today. Everything went together perfectly, without any leaks at the fuel rail/injectors. However, I'm having a crank but no start issue. As I'm doing this solo, I'm finding it difficult to check for spark while sitting behind the steering wheel.

The distributor and rotor are in their proper place and the plug wires are new and in their proper places, as well. All components are connected and I'm not having any issues with the instrument cluster being wonky.

I installed a new CPS in hopes to avoid this issue. All other sensors were installed new as well, with Mopar/NGK(NTK) parts.

You will find that there are probably several of those mystery plugs on every model. They make a full wiring harness so it will fit all models and options and then plug into it if you have that particular one

Something you might want to invest in is a remote starter switch. It lets you check stuff while cranking, such as spark and fuel pressure. I like them so well I have two
