    Default Speedometer issue

    2001 Cherokee Classic Sport 4x4
My son was driving today and said the gauges went crazy for a second and then the speedo pegged all the way around until it hit the trip meter reset and now it is stuck there. If I plug in a obd reader, it is registering the speed and it isn't showing any faults.
This is a new to him vehicle and I have no clue how to help him.
I did a search and I guess this truck doesn't have a cable. I also saw a few things about the clock spring and multiple mentions about grounding issues. All the other gauges are working fine now.

It is just stuck, but you knew that. You can remove the cluster and take the back off and give it a little nudge and I think it will go back to zero. But when you put it back together, make sure that plug on the back is good and clean or the gauges won't work at all

Found a replacement cluster on eBay for 10, might snag it for insurance

Still wondering what might have caused it though

Same as any other speedo, bang then hard and they can stick. I have one that the needle fell off of

Mine will not work at all once in a while...smack the dash and they work again.like Steve said the plug in the back of cluster usually the culprit

My speedo was giving me problems one day. Then the next day the alternator gave out. Don't know if the 2 problem were related or not. but the speedo works perfect since the new alt install.
One more part and I'll have a new Jeep
