    Default 1991 4.0l xj

Why did my XJ blow the dipstick out the tube 10 feet away from the truck while I was trying to start it? When I looked, smelled like exhaust fumes was coming out of the dipstick tube.

The most common reason for that is blow by that cannot escape through the top of the valve cover vents because they are plugged, particularly the one in back

I cleaned this and did a compression test and the pressure is very low. How do I replace the rings with removing the engine or do I HAVE to remove it?

It is possible to replace the rings without pulling the engine completely. You will have to remove the head and oil pan. The pistons will come out the top. When you get ready to do it we can give you some further pointers

I am not sure about that. Others on here will know. But I see you have some carbon guild up. How long has it been since your O2 sensor has been changed?

One thing I would recommend then before you go and start tearing the engine apart is replace the O2 sensor then. No one ever does. They are part of your tune up, plugs etc every 50K. A worn out sensor will cause your engine to run rich and eventually make lots of carbon deposits.
