    Default Factory Fog Lights

I have factory fog lights on my jeep, that I just replaced not to long ago after putting on a new front bumper. How far below my head lights should the fog light beams be aimed? I thought that I had them right, but driving home tonight from Hermiston, I got flashed by every car that was comming twords me including a state cop , so I am guessing that I have the lights aimed to high. I have really crappy head lights, so I run my fog lights 24/7 along with my head lights, and I would really like to keep them aimed as high as I can, but not get flashed all the time

Aim them high, and only turn them on when needed. Stock headlights suck!!! Go HID

The OEM fog lights really illuminate to the sides. I used to love them so much that I was trying to put them in my new bumper! I switch to Silver Stars and it helped, but not what I really wanted.

Make sure the OEM fog lights light up to the sides and out about 50 feet. People flash for various reasons. It may be they don't like seeing 4 lights, and not because it is too bright. How common/uncommon is it to see people with 4 lights on?

Have a look at roundeyes.com. They have some headlights for the XJ that I'm going to get sooner or later. They accept bulbs. I'm going to get the 100 watt bulbs to go in mine. I think they are 80 watt low beam and 100 watt high beam. So they'll be quite a bit brighter than stock, illegal, but brighter.

I figure I'll carry the regular bulbs with me and push come to shove I'll just replace them while the cop watches. I don't seriously think anyone will notice with all the blue hi intensity lights out there.

BTW, don't get those blue lights. They look pretty but the human eye sees better with yellow. So blue lights actually decrease your ability to see what is in front of you.

I went to roundeyes.com and I found a set of heaflights that are now on my wish list. They do say that they are street legal and are 60% brighter than the stock ones I have now. I did read on and it said any higher wattage bulbs you put in are for off road use only. Here is the link. http://www.roundeyes.com/Jeep_Headla...Headlamps.html

I love xjtalk, I have found more websites for XJ goodies from word of mouth by all you guys, thanks!!

Sorry I didn't mean to mislead you. The lights they sell ARE street legal with the bulbs they include, however they are NOT street legal with the bulbs I want to put in them.

I converted mine and used IPF fatboys. Legal and light things up well. They have a typical spectrum so they don't blind the other people.

    12V 130 / 90W H4 P43t base
Sold as a single bulb for off-road use only. Update your shopping cart if you want a pair.
This is the bulb I want to get, but 90 watts low beam, hmmm might not get away with that one.

    12V 100 / 55W H4 P43t base
Sold as a single bulb for off-road use only. Update your shopping cart if you want a pair.
This one isn't street legal either but 55 watts is the normal wattage for street legal bulbs, but I'd have 100 watts for high beams.

Keep in mind that when you increase the wattage you have to replace the way they get power. The wiring is set up for the current wattage bulbs. It's not that big a deal to do, but it is something to consider.

I'd even stay with the 55 watt bulb these lights come with, as long as it does what it states and the lights are 60% brighter than the one I have now, wait anything would be better, I can't see crap as it is now

Not the best pics, but here is just my headlights on

Here is my headlights plus my fog lights, see why I have to run both

I was looking at those, as well, in the Quadratek catalog.

How much of an improvement would you say they are over the OEM?

Oh! Those aren't the factory fog lights. No wonder they were flashing you. What are those bulbs rated at?

Yes, you are right, my jeep did come with factory fog lights and that was the point I wanted to make, but I had broken both the original fog lights, one from a really mean tumbleweed and the other got broke when I hit bambie. the new fog lights are in the same spot as the original fog lights, and I have no idea what they are rated, they only say SAE Y93 on them. I didn't think that them being an aftermarket foglight would matter, I just wanted to know how high to aim them as not piss off every car off that came twords me, sorry

Oh yes, with all the Deer and Elk running around here, I kind of want to see them and try to stop instead of only hearing them as I hit them

These are plastic, right? If so expect them to cloud up in a few years. Might want to buy two sets.

I upgraded to Hella housings (glass) and 80/100 watt bulbs. Big improvement. Then I upgraded the wiring to giva a full 12V from battery to the lights. Another big improvement. I can finally see well enough to drive the XJ at night.
Hey bubba get your hand off my ass,

Some days it is just not worth it to gnaw through the leather restraints.
