That's exactly the info I was looking for. I may just for giggles pick this up anyways to part it out. I should be able to own it for 3000. Then again it's winter and that poses all kinds of issues..

How about this one Steve? Or what are your thoughts on a D44 from a Grand Cherokee?

A D44 is a D44. But I think the postal Jeep track width would be too narrow. When you get one, that is a question you need to ask. How wide is it. As near as I can tell, it is about 6" too narrow

That works. Bear in mind they have a six lug wheel bolt pattern though. But other than that, go for it

The 44's in Grands are the aluminum center section 44A. Parts are harder to come by and the aluminum can crack if you bang it off something. It would not be worth the trouble to swap in.

Okay I'm pretty sure I just snagged a holy grail of XJ parts. Found a discreet ad for a Dana 44 from an XJ. Phone tag back and forth a little bit but finally got to talk to the guy. Welded spiders but it was never run with the gears welded. They're almost non existant anymore. Spider set runs about 170, Lokka runs 215 ish... Am I nuts buying this thing sight unseen or is it worth it anyways?

You might have to replace the whole carrier depending on how it was welded. But the D44 is the most buildable of the XJ diffs

Better be jumping on that. Those spiders will be a pain though. You will need a torch to remove them even so. But hey, a lunch box locker will fix that. I just happen to be staring at one as I type this for a D44

I couldn't pass up the deal. I had to say yes and we are working out delivery details now.
