    Default Tire advice. 33 or 35

    So i have been planning on new gears and tires this fall. I have a 3" lift and like low COG but will do what i have to to stuff what i decide on in my wells. Ive been thinking about 33x10.5s but it has come to my attention that 35x12.5s have more options and will cost about the same per tire. My concern is what else will i need to do (axles and steering) to make that work? Im on the factory 30low pinion and crysler 8.25 29 spline. As always thank you all in advance!!

    Im slow. Its still my daily driver but i dont commute far although it does go on long hunting trips. And is wheeled primary into backwoods hunting fishing and camping spots. The harder the better

    Honestly, 35s on 3 inches of lift will require so much trimming, longer bump stops, regearing plus preferably stronger axles, the correct amount of wheel offset, it will be very difficult to do and on a daily driver your fuel consumption will skyrocket.

    All I'm saying is that it CAN be done, but to do it properly and safely will take a lot more work than you'll probably want to do. I'd go 33s or even 32s and you still will have to trim fenders and such, but your axles should be able to handle it.

    Unless you build up your axles (chromo shafts and tube/truss) when you regear then the smart thing to do is to stick with 33s. Even with 33s your going to want to add a steering box brace to your list as it is prone to ripping itself off the frame/unibody once larger tires are installed. To run 35s and 3 inches of lift you would have to open up your fenders ALOT. Your still going to have to do some trimming with 33s and 3 inches of lift. Also pretty much everywhere 35s will take you, 33s will get you there also.

    Thank you for the input gentlemen, you're right its more trouble than its worth and kills trying to keep a narrower tire. So the question now is 33x10.5x15 load range C or 225/85r16 (33x10x16) load range E

    Load ranges are beyond my knowledge. Hopefully somebody will chime in that has that expertise

    I would recommend not getting a load range E tire. Those are very stiff and made for hauling loads on pickup trucks. Load range C at most. If not in rocks, Load Range B works well. Nice flexy tires

    i hadent thought of that. lol. i spent so many years autocrossing hondas that what i think of as a normal ride is more akin to a hardtail.

    Yah load range E tires are WAY too stiff for an XJ. I have 33x10.5 BFG KM2 load range C and I like the way it rides and drives.

    For what it's worth, I'm running 32" BFG KM2s on a 3" BDS lift. Even with this tire lift combo you'll need to do a little bit of trimming. Like Jim and Dave said earlier, if you go bigger you'll have more to worry about than the tires fitting.

    I think 33:10.50, is a good size, I know a couple guys around here who have them and they wouldn't go any wider. But I do like 31:10.50s also we just put those on my sons xj and I think that is a great size and you can go a lot of places if your careful.
