They've been talking about it for a bit. It's only a matter of time. The Chinese will keep marching up the radio ladder.

I don't think it's a bad thing just one of those that I will believe when I see it. Other Baofeng DMR articles were posted as April Fools jokes sooooo yeah.

The fact that it first appeared on QRZnow.com and the Baofeng website doesn't make mention of it doesn't lend itself to any credibility of this product. There are however sites pre-selling the radio for 69.99. Guess we will have to wait and see.

It is speced at Tier I which does not allow for digital repeater use.

"Rumor 1: The BaoFeng DM-5R is not compatible with MOTOTRBO TIER 2.

FALSE. While the BaoFeng DM-5R comes out of the box only supporting Tier 1, it can be easily upgraded to support Tier 2 online. The upgrade will be available at Radioddity.com as well as BaoFeng’s official website (under construction). This upgrade costs less than 10."

So they say…they also say it will not be available upon initial release as well. I'm actually quite curious as to the actual tech specs of the radio (what vocoder is in it).

For DMR the TYT MD-380 is quite popular. DMR took off here pretty well as there are 5 or 6 repeaters in town.

The BF-F9 V2 looks like a higher power UV-5R and I am sure it will work fine and drain the battery that much quicker.

Well I figure I'd run a lower wattage for the most part.. just kind of nice, to have the added power if needed or wanted for anything...
