Default Need Help Finding Upper Front Control Arm bushing Bolt

Hello, I have a 98 jeep Cherokee 4.0 4wd with 399, 000 miles. I rebuilt motor at 233, 000. I am in the process of trying to change the upper control arm bushings front and rear. I am having a time getting the axle side bolt out. I thought I would just replace them. I have found out that the dealer does not sell the upper front control arm bushing bolts anymore.

Does anyone know where I can get the upper front control arm bushing bolt (axle side) for a 98 jeep Cherokee 4.0 4WD. I think some people may refer to it as the caster/camber adjustment bolt because it has a plate on it. I have tried 2 different dealers who said it has been discontinued and NAPA cant get it either.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any hardware store. You can use either a 10mm or 3/8" bolt

I bought my camber bolts at the local Jeep/Chevy dealer. They are also used on some Chevys. The Jeep side didn't have them so they sent me to the Chevy counter. The other bolts(non camber) on my Grand are metric and I bought them at the hardware store ....grade 10.9 I think.

I just went thru that on my 96, I had to cut 4 out of 8 bolts. mine were plain bolts. fastnall had em but I found em at a mom and pop hardware store for half the price.

lower Factory bolts are M14 x 2.0 pitch x 120mm long, class 10.9, flange head, nipple tip

    upper M10x1.5, 85mm long

Bare with me for my lack of knowledge on this but I want to make sure I do it right. I think my upper control arm bolts are the original bolts both the front and rear. I am not so much worried about the rear bolt as it looks just like a standard bolt.

The front upper control arm bolt has the standard nut on one side which I can loosen no problem but the head of this bolt is almost flat and has what looks like a little plate that is folded over. Its fairly rusty and is not budging.

Once I loosen the large bolt a little on the one side I cant even tap it out.

I could cut these bolts out and put a M10 X 1.5 X 90mm standard bolt in but what about this piece that looks like a little metal plate that is attached to the existing bolt?

I believe that is a locking device to keep the bolt from spinning and loosening.

Yep it's a nut with a metal tab. It the tab stops against the hole and holds the nut while you tighten it. Same thing on the track bar at the axle.

It sounds like it wont come out because the axle is binding it. I had a hard time getting my left upper bolts in. I had to put a jack under the shock mount to kinda twist the axle forward.

Also I think your bolt is siezed to the inner sleeve of the bushing. giving it the appearance of some kind of funky dealer only part.

I am no expert, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The tab you are talking about is not necessary. It is there for ease of factory installation. No wrench required on that side for some reason only the assembly line guru knows

    As the others mentioned ...

The tab is just a holding device so that only one spanner is required.

Guess they thought it would make fitting/removal easy ..
