Default Which translation do you prefer?

For study, I like the NASB or HCSB. For NT reading, I usually use the HCSB or NIV. For the OT, though, I find the NLT to be easier reading. Overall, the HCSB is probably my favorite. Most of all, I just like to compare different translations to help me gain a better understanding on difficult passages.

Our pastor teaches from the NASB version, the Ryrie study bible to be exact, along with the original Hebrew. Ryrie was one of his teachers in seminary. I have compared many verses between NASB and NIV and find them to be almost identical. I would use either. I won't use a KJV version ever again. They are just too hard to understand. I'd rather make sense out of what I'm reading than try to decipher which thee and thou the passage is talking about.
