You will have to pull the inside panel so you can access the mechanism

I knew I shoulda kept my measurements from the other day ..

Remove the grab handle ... and you might, be able to pull the bottom half, out enough to reach in ??

Theres two screws high on each side ... as well as the four along the top.

The bottom half is held on with plastic clips with easily broken clip mounts.

Expect to wreck the trim - if you try to get it off with the tailgate closed.

    Otherwise ....

1" holesaw ... centred about 2" to the right of the tailgate centre line ... ( looking at it from inside ) .... and about 1" down from the top of that hump in the plastic over the general lock area.

That will let you easily see and fish around with a piece of wire.

Keep the drill bit short ... only a fraction more depth than the holesaw blade ... and drill careful ... theres wiring close by.

Plug the hole with a 1" rubber grommet/bung.

Just a 1/2" drill hole would do ... but will take longer to find and snag the mechanism.

I havent done it ... but thats my fix - if it happens before I get the internal lever fitted.

I hate watching simplicity and reliability being ruined by bureaucracy and technology.
