Re: Control Arm Skids, bolt on vs. weld on

Come on up to Dallas and I'd be happy to weld them on with you. Haven't had any extra money to spend on the XJ lately, so maybe I could get that good feeling vicariously.

    Re: Gambler 500 car build

Love it! I've been wanting to do the Gambler 500 in the Northwest for a couple years now too. Since the finances aren't going to work for me for at least a few more years, I'll have to settle on...

    Re: Best OEM-like Carpet?

You are correct sir. This practice is called "drop-shipping" and is getting much more common with internet sellers. The sellers get the benefit (and profits) of having a retail store without ever...

    Re: plasma cutter

I've done a ton of research on plasma cutters over the past year or two. The best you can get is a Hypertherm, but their price reflects that as well. I've heard good things about the Eastwood...

I'm with you. Looks really nice, but not for that price. I think he'd be lucky to get half that for it.

    Re: JK D44 swap

That rear bumper looks great! Well all of it looks pretty great, but the rear bumper has me thinking I need to build myself one kinda like it.

    Air Compressor Refurbish

I bought this old Sears Craftsman air compressor off of Craigslist last week. It was pretty old (1985), dirty, and the paint was flaking off the tank, but it was cheap, fairly well taken care of,...

Was that the Seafoam treatment in the gas tank or in the crankcase?

    Re: Rear disc brake conversion

I don't have the book in front of me, but Eric Zappe's book has a chart of the strength of each axle and I remember being surprised at how much stronger the 8.8 is than even the 29 spline 8.25.

    Re: Craigslist finds

I'm hoping it was super rusty and his plan was to cut out all the cancer and build it back with tubing, but I think he's off his rocker if he thinks he's going to get $1200 for unfinished half an XJ....

Re: What are these parts called?

#1 is the PCV Elbow or valve. Vents positive pressure from the crankcase into the air box. Should be <$5 to replace at autozone.

    #2- Not sure

#3- Not sure either, but I have one in the same...

    Re: Concerned about oil pressure

No need for concern. That's pretty good oil pressure. It's normal for the oil pressure to go up when you're on the gas, both of my 4.0L's are pretty much the same.

    Re: Motor mount install

You should be able to do them both by yourself without much hassle. Just do one at a time so you're not trying to line up too many bolts at once, at least that's what I did.

    Before starting you...

    Re: Why Dex/Merc III?

    Re: Why Dex/Merc III?

I'm pretty sure it was just the 00-01 XJs that specifies ATF+4 for the transmission.

My 99's owner's manual specifies only Dex/Merc III for the transmission/transfer case.
