You can clock it 90° to either side

In theory yes. But something is not right. Is there a spacer between the box and frame? When the wheels are straight is the pitman arm aligned along the long axis of the vehicle or off to one...

Measure how far the tires stick out on both sides of the rig

Is your track bar adjusted properly. Axle centered?
