That is enough to stress the cooling system

I have electrics. But make sure you can move enough air with the electrics. You need about 3000 cfm total to match OEM output

I think you are right on the fan clutch. You also might have a similar problem to Mudderoy where the PCM isn't really reading the right temp or communicating the right temp to the gauge
