Sounds like you got a LHD one with the connections on the air filter side ??
LHD XJs have the oil lines hooked up to the heat exchanger in the cool side of the radiator ..... and the aux oil...

A good slosh around with soapy water followed by a de-mineralised water rinse and left to dry out of direct sunlight ... might bring em up...
