I just loosened the collar clamp nut on the side, and used a large flat tipped screwdriver on the flange on the pan. It popped right off.

Yes it does. The switch is very straight forward, and serviceable. Once cleaned up, like Mel did, it will work nicely for years!!
Yep, it's a very common problem with older, more experienced XJs!!
