    For DMR the TYT MD-380 is quite popular. DMR took off here pretty well as there are 5 or 6 repeaters in town.

    The BF-F9 V2 looks like a higher power UV-5R and I am sure it will work fine and drain...

    It can be a little tricky to program, most people use a computer and the CHIRP software to do it and that's not too bad. But I would assume that the Baofengtech UV-5001 would also be a bit tricky...

    An extendable painters pole might be an idea as well. The one i use is 6' collapsed and 12' extended. I put my tape measure yagi on top of it.

    Most dual band radios when running APRS on one "side" can not do voice on the other "side" at the same time. IMO a separate APRS set up would be better and for you a full size mobile with 40+ watts...
