I don't think it's a bad thing just one of those that I will believe when I see it. Other Baofeng DMR articles were posted as April Fools jokes sooooo yeah.
Baofeng DMR?.... maybe. Looks like there is speculation of a Dual Band DMR HT the DM-5r. The fact that it first appeared on QRZnow.com and the Baofeng website doesn't make mention of it doesn't lend...

Not a whole lot of mono band or dual band mobiles doing SSB these days.... ;)
It can be a little tricky to program, most people use a computer and the CHIRP software to do it and that's not too bad. But I would assume that the Baofengtech UV-5001 would also be a bit tricky...
If you are just going to listen you can't beat a Baofeng HT.
Not a Baofeng.... but how about a 25 watt HT? Heat up a few brain cells with it Im sure..

It looks like BaofengTech (what their relationship is with Baofeng I am no sure) has a couple of Mobile radios out.
The UV-2501 is a 25 watt dual band which is a copy of a couple other cheap...

Would be cheaper to buy them (5R instead) individually and get prime shipping.
I tried that before and it didn't make a difference, but might give it another shot.
However.. I think I may have another issue. I think the adapter cable to go from SMA to SO239 may be bad. I can...
The newest version of Chirp allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the squelch on the Boafeng/Pofund radios. From the factory they have settings of 0-9, though the actual response seems to be more...

Probably wouldnt be the best antenna for an outback adventure probably want something more rigid and more collapsible.
An extendable painters pole might be an idea as well. The one i use is 6' collapsed and 12' extended. I put my tape measure yagi on top of it.
There are a handful of 2m repeaters around Fairbanks but traveling too far i to the wilderness I would contemplate a license upgrade and a HF mobile radio. For vhf it wouldnt hurt to keep a...
Most dual band radios when running APRS on one "side" can not do voice on the other "side" at the same time. IMO a separate APRS set up would be better and for you a full size mobile with 40+ watts...
The BF 9500 is just a UHF single band radio.. no cross band, no remote faceplate.. etc.
TYT has a quad band mobile for about $280. Covers 440, 146, 50, and 29 MHz (70cm, 2m, 6m, and 10m) but has...

Download Chirp. Makes it easy to program and works on other radios as well. Only problem I had was getting the right driver, program works well. You did order the programming cable right? :D
It's really only these... lol.
Most HT's by the "big name" manufactures are in the mid $100s+.
