Just a reminder for all our new members. Chatbox is that little area at the top of most xjtalk pages where you see people chatting.

You need to be a member with 100 posts before you can SEND messages in chatbox.

Everyone, excepted banned members, can see the messages being sent in chatbox. That includes guests to the site!

Site donators receive instant access to chatbox. That isn't meant to be a reason to donate, I just thought it was fair that if you donate you shouldn't have to wait for your 100th post.

Keep in mind that once you hit your 100th post it may take up to 1 hour for the site to promote you.

No just a number I came up with. The board was very new (just turned 1 year old in March) and we needed lots of posts. I think we still do but you know some people are never satisfied. I tell you what I'll asked the moderators if we should change it and let you know. Thanks for the question, and the post. :D

Sorry, I wasn't trying to sound entitled or anything. I was just wondering why 100. You don't have to change it or anything, but if you decide to you won't hear me complaining lol. That makes sense though, if you want the forum to grow, you gotta give people a reason to post! :)

Muddy asked us moderators and I voted to stick with 100 for several reasons. One is that the reason for the forum in the first place is to promote social and technical interaction centered around XJs. In the chatbox there is mostly just friendly banter minus the tech side. We still need to promote the tech side. Another reason is to get to know each new member. There is no better way than through the posting, so that all members new and old can do this. And the last is related, that being that we don't want to inherit any "instant" problems in the chat box with flaming etc.
