Trying very hard to convince myself that was a bad move but then I'm so freaking happy that I got out of that shithole. Hmm...

I never announced it on the forums (i don't think) so this is a first. I was quite embarrassed about the job so I kept it to myself.

I worked as an overnight meat butcher at my local wal-fart. Been there for 5 years handling their somewhat-fresh meat. It was probably my best job that i've had cuz I went from $6.00 an hr to $11.90 in 5 years. That's unheard of at wal-fart. I worked so damn hard at that job and was considered the best worker on my side of the store, receiving two merit raises in my first year.

We had a manager named kevin for the first 4 years and then he transferred to another store and this un-experienced lady from next door became our manager. For some reason she held a grudge against me and attacks everything I do. I have no idea why. I was always nice to her and always did my job plus more but she was never satisfied. She didn't do what kevin did (he did ALOT of the work) so us workers have to do more and she keeps sending us to the office for not doing our jobs but she's the one not helping out. I've been frustrated for months and I had to do something. They would not transfer me (hold on hiring) so I left.

I was told by my best bud that Bayer wants me as an email support tech so we'll see how that goes. i'm not sure if i want to go back to my nerdy computer days cuz I like the physical type jobs. But if it pays......

If your happy, then good for you.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, I worked for nine years full time as a "meat wrapper" and then the last 6 of those years, I was the butcher/meat wrapper. I did the same thing you did. I worked 6 1/2 days a week, worked my *** off, but I could do nothing right anymore, so one day I just walk up to the main boss and said see ya, I've had enough!!

Small world. I didn't tell anyone of my plan to quit. I threw my working gloves, which were $4 winter snow gloves wrapped completely in duct tape :rotfl2: (hey they lasted almost a year!), in the garbage and my co-worker saw them and told me that they were in the garbage. I told her "i won't need them anymore", as in hinting to her but she didn't get it. I left a note on management's desk and then punched out for the last time. I will miss some aspects of that job, especially the people cuz they are all so nice...except the boss.

I really liked my co-workers as well, but when you are unhappy at your job it starts to reflect at home, I was neglecting my two daughters, working so much and I was pretty cranky, at the time, I had no other job prospects, but looking back it was the best move I ever made. I'll say it again, Good for you!!!

What happened after you quit?

Things got really tight, I was seperated from my husband renting an apartment and I only had 3 months worth of money saved up, So I spent two of those months just loving on my daughters and then got serious about job hunting. As luck would have it, I found a wonderful job working at a motel as a night auditor, super boss, nice hours, good pay, and I only worked 4 days a week :smiley-gen165:

I worked there about two years, and then got back into ranching and I have never looked back

Of course I am always broke now, ranching does not pay for the little guy, but I am very happy

That's good that you had some saved up to last you a while. I don't have much....and i wonder why. :rotfl2:

I could seek employment in the hotel business. I used to work for Ramada Plaza Suites in Pittsburgh. OMG was I rich back then. I only made $7.20 hr but with tips and 17 hour work days, I was bringing home $2k every two weeks. That job was GREAT, but at the same time SUCKED cuz everyone got fired or left and the team dwindled down to two, me and my gf. We were overworked so we quit. Pretty similar to what happened at wal-fart. My boss Kevin left and then we went from 6 people to just three. Managing only three people for 7 days in a 24/7 store is next to impossible but i managed to get everything done. Some people say it's my worth ethic that causes this to happen cuz I work so freakin hard and do literally everything that they always end up thinking I can handle it and then get rid of people to save $$. I'm not trying to take over, i'm just a hard worker that likes to help everyone. It just happens to be that I can get so much more work done than three other people combined. Sometimes I think it's my deafness cuz deaf people don't really chat around much so I'm always working while some workers chat and chill.

Oh I wasn't ashamed to be a butcher or work in the meat department, I was more embarrassed working FOR wal-mart cuz wal-fart doesn't support it's own economy by buying china crap and there's alot of criticizm towards the store since forever.

I have confidence. My best bud from middle school works for Bayer in Pittsburgh. Ya know bayer the medicine company. He was just promoted to manager and has a big say. He's always complimenting my work ethic to his bosses and recommended me to replace this one guy who's slacking. They contacted me about 6 months ago but I turned down the offer cuz I couldn't afford the commute at the time. It's an hour drive. He's telling them that I'm an available fish and said they will contact me about the job.

If that doesn't work out, my gf's mother's friend's friend's husband's friend owns a computer business in pittsburgh and wants to hire both my gf and I to work there.

and if THAT doesn't work out, my step-father owns a Fiberglass company in Mercer so he'll take me almost immediately....but i hate working with fiberglass.

and if all that fails....there's always Mcdonalds...lol.

My mechanic was telling me that an ex-employee of his applied for a job. The business called my mechanic for a reference. He said, lets say Frank, was great! Best fluffer he ever had. He was laughing as he told me this. I looked at him confused and said "What's a fluffer?" He explained that during the making of porn movies, a fluffer keeps the male ahhh actor aroused.

So you have this "girl" who's job, no pun intended, is to keep the actor erect and ready for the next shot, again no pun intended.

Spanky it is different in different stores. We have three Super Wally Worlds and one has a meat department where the butch does not know what Veal is and the next closest store has the worst ground beef I have ever seen...............but the last store has a good selection and a great butcher who will custom cut any meat that he has just like you want it. Their selection seems a higher quality than the other two also.

I just got laid off on Friday... I had a temp job with a company in their customer service department and the company had to cut all of the temps becuase of budget cuts. I'm kind of glad it happened because the job sucked! I was "that guy" that you talk to when you call an 800 number, and speaking to nearly 100 people a day that HATED you even though they didn't know you just sucked!

My stepfather buys a half a cow from the local butcher and has it all chopped up and stored in his freezer. That beef is OMG so much better than anything walmart could offer. A little secret about wal-mart meat. You know the commercials saying their meat is FRESH? It's not exactly FRESH. Your store either has packaged beef in those plastic containers or what they call "fresh" packaged beef, the new stuff that comes wrapped in sarah wrap and looks like it was just cut. The container beef has a shelf life of two weeks or so. That's not fresh IMO. Take it out of the container after week 1 and it'll be brown and disgusting on the bottom most of the time. The other packaged meat has a shelf life of 1.5 weeks (pork is 2.5 weeks). It's previously frozen then thawed and packaged as fresh meat. We don't butcher up all that stuff, it's sent to us in "mother bags" that we cut open and then we put a sell by date on the package and put it out on the floor. It's already pre-packed who knows when. If you want FRESH beef, go to your local butcher. If you want Made-in-China quality beef then chew on the wal-mart stuff. Their chicken is ok though, made from Perdue. The ground beef is a joke. It's almost as if they cloned each package of beef. Looks so fake and i've had my share of fun with that stuff in the back room. You should see how far that stuff flies when you hit it with a broom when it's semi-frozen.

I have a question that maybe some of you may know. I am waiting for my last paycheck from my job. It's supposed to come in on Aug 6 but i'm wondering what's included in the last check? Someone mentioned all my holiday pay was included plus more. Is that "more" the sick and personal hours too? I'm trying to figure out my budget for the month since I have no income and if i get sick/personal/holiday pay in this next check then it will last me about two months. I hope all of that is included.

I think it depends on the company policies and perhaps the laws in your state. In the past sick time was not paid when you terminated. Vacation pay was. My last job we didn't have sick and vacation, it was all PDO (Paid Days Off), so I was paid all of that when I was terminated. (They closed the Houston office due to hurricane damage). We did NOT receive holiday pay after termination, that was paid as the holidays occurred.

Oh i meant holiday pay as vacation hours. My work calls vacation hours "holiday pay" so it's a little different from most. I'm gonna look into it some more and hopefully find out what i'm getting. The sick hours would be nice. I have 186 sick hours and at $12 a hr....that's some money.

We actually by quite a bit of meat from China*Mart... We cook ALOT in our slow cookers in the winter(we have three large ones, just so we dont have to wash them every night). Once a Wal*Mart roast spends 10 hours slow cooking.. you wouldn't know the difference.
