Question...since the Backbone uses all three steeringbox bolts, and is a 1/4" plate the brace isn't really needed anymore is it? I can't see why.

Opinions?

I need to get under there and look at that. I'm hoping the backbone makes it stronger. You know he used a backbone in my bumper? I'm not sure how much of it, I'd have to SEE it to be able to tell. :smiley-laughing021:

I guess the Backbone is a good a place to start when making a winch bumper.

Oh, I'll brb, I'm going to go out and look at MY bumper.:D

Typically, no......no brace required.

If you were on 35's with a stock box, brace everything you can find!:smiley-scared002:

Yeah, that's the brace. Reason I asked is C-Rok and others make a plate to strengthen this area and the mount on the Backbone IMO does the same thing.

Occasional wheeling like I do:driving:, and running 31's (for now), I think I'll leave it off.

Tell you what Jeff, you pay shipping and it's your's! It will just set in the garage gathering dust if you don't. With ALL the OTHER Jeep parts I need to get rid of.

Hey, what are friends for?:rotfl2:

Yup, you should be good....

Your only side consideration should be the aluminum spacer used between the box and the unit-body, this is a cast part........hold onto your brace if you go to 33's where more stress's would be applied or if you lock the front end.....this is when steering stress starts to climb and you start looking for a stock box upgrade & goodies....

I doubt I'll ever go to 33's. I don't think I want to mess with regearing. I considering 32's.

But hell...who knows, I just bought the Jeep to haul deer out of the woods, now look where I'm at.:smiley-laughing021:

Hey Mark, any progress on my backbone? Just checkin in on it :) (if you are scratching your head wondering "who da hell is that", it's Chris and I ordered a backbone last week)

I have a question on this. I am running a front locker, and 265/75's (32's) mtz's. You think the backbone-supported steering box would be alright? I do mostly intense forrest trail runs and alot of muddin.
