First on a 97 XJ how to get to the heater box. The box that controls the air flow. If i turn my defrost past the #2 speed, the air will go inside my dash and not on the window. I can hear the flap, "flap" and then no more air.

Also, a "How-to" on how to actually fix the flap and how this works and if there is a better fix for this problem.

Thanks!

On the 99 Matt took out every bolt and the steering column to get to the A/C condenser out of there. There is a box that holds the blower, the condenser and the heater core.

I have that issue with my 04 ram 1500, and after watching his videos i'm not gonna hillbilly it. After talking with my dealer connection he informed me my ram as a "upgraded box" so for 40$ I got the upgraded box. I haven't pulled the dash yet but its on my to do list :love0055:

Holy cow, that looks like a heck of a project!!

Mine will do the same thing if i turn the fan up to fast. I turn it on 1 then 2 then on up 1 at a time. Works fine that way. Beats tearing the dash out.

According to the "book" its a 5.5hr job , Best time I have is about 7.0hrs its a real pain and yes the heater box goes in first then they build the Jeep around it. The earlier models are actually worse than the newer ones, not as modular. I never did fix mine , I had no heat and no blower but it would blow warm air on defrost but only based on speed. It was horrible in the snow and cold here, but I lived.

This is more for when the wife drives the jeep. I drive her car when I go to school. Trying to save on mileage.

It's really not that bad. It just takes a while to do.

Have you tried flushing and reverse flushing your heater core?? The reason I ask, is because mine was blowing colder than all hell, and then I flushed and reverse flushed my heater core, and mine blows quite hot now.. I'm pretty sure it is warmer now, than it was when I bought it a few years back..
