I am not sure either Dana. Hot spot maybe?

Pookapotamus
12-02-2017, 10:11 PM
It looks as if the injector is spraying onto the piston. But none of the other pistons have it. And if I remember correctly that is the same spot that the previous piston failed at.

But the injector is supposed to spray the valve I think. You going to change the injector?

Pookapotamus

I think I need to do more research , was thinking it might be a small crack in the block, possible gasket.

I might lean towards gasket or some other kind of leak that has water in it

You call that dirty? I swept up ten pounds of grinder dust the other day :D

Pookapotamus

It was either flatten the tires or take them off and I was in a hurry!

So that clean spot is very close to where the previous piston failed.

They were both decked recently Steve, but could be.

Well the wiring is still going really slow, but it’s coming along, got the new dual fan controller mounted, and mort still runs and so far only throwing one code (purge system) even though I deleted the down stream O2 sensor.

Well mort has working lights and horns now, also ran the wiring for driving/light bar/bunny burner lights. As you can see I mounted the horns in the front fenders, hope they fit!

Lots more wiring to do so I can’t really button anything up yet but wow it the wiring greatly simplified!

Still looking for a couple 96 fuse blocks.

I like your block idea for the main power. I did a similar thing for my isolated batteries in back. Got a chance to try it out last summer in an embarrassing stuck. Worked like a charm, especially with 250 amps feeding the block from the alternator

Also my buddy James came up with this, possibly my new favourite mod!

Pookapotamus
12-17-2017, 10:33 AM
Old one was modified to fit the old bumper, was never happy with it as I had to trim the bottom to clear the bumper and that made holes. Also I deleted the licence plate holder as it was now located on the swing out. Since no more swing out I need a spot for the plate.

12-17-2017, 04:08 PM
The diet looks like it is coming along nicely... If mine was a trail only rig, I'd get rid of the swing out carrier too.. not only for the weight, but for the aggravating bouncing (granted yours was built far better than the one I have, so probably wasn't an issue for your setup).. lol

Pookapotamus
12-17-2017, 04:19 PM
No matter how well it’s built it will bounce! Mort is my daily but I don’t plan on carrying the spare every day now, I have on board air, so if I get a flat that should get me home.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

4.3LXJ

I like the yellow, but I also like the Tonka toy look. Yellow with black accents. I found something the hard way that might interest you. POR15 bed liner can be brushed on. It has grit in the bottom and not mixed in when you get it. So if you don't stir it, you have a good gloss paint that is tough as nails. Plan is to cover the diffs, sliders and bumpers with it. Easy to touch up if needed

Pookapotamus
01-09-2018, 12:59 PM
Only problem with por 15 is it can’t take sunlight, fades badly fast! It is not uv stable.

Well pretty disheartened this morning, sandblasted morts sliders yesterday, and found a spot that had the consistency of wet paper.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190731/7be2df51b30ee55f4f6ce64dd9a98a69.jpg

So now what?

Option 1 - cut out the bad, replace with sheet metal

Option 2 - cut out the bad, replace with new panels, if I can find them... the whole 2 door rarity conundrum

Option 3 - cut out entire floor, replace with new panels, see option 2, basically rotisserie mort, and modify to suit.

Lots of problems and benefits with all options, anyone have any suggestions?

Christclapper where do you get your restoration panels? All I can find is the simple basic panels, mostly 4 door parts.

Now I am off to have a little cry!

Pookapotamus
07-31-2019, 10:31 AM
The whole floor, I am thinking it would be a good thing to beef up the seat mounts, and anything else in the floor area. Plus I beat the crap out of the floor to fit exhaust, it would be nice to clean all that up.

As far as I know, the 2 door floor is about the same as the 4 door floor. But as for that spot, to fix it I would use some tiger hair. Works pretty good in filling stuff like that

It is an epoxy based body filler with fibers in it to keep it from cracking. It is made for filling in holes and stuff. Sometimes called kitty hair.

Be sure to get the hardener too. Comes in a tube

With your skills it would be cool to see you make some custom pans. Bead rolled and all! That's what I wanted to do.

I'm pretty familiar with the floor of mine at this point and I can't think of any reason the 4 door pans would be different on 2 doors. I have extensive pictures of my floor if you need any to compare.

Finishing up my tubing rockers because I had the same problem!

Well in typical pook fashion, I have decided to pull out everything I did and start over, AGAIN!

This time I have decided to move the ecm under the dash along with the the main fuse block and delete the firewall mounted, pass-thru internal fuse block. Also re-mounting the dual oil filters and weld up all the holes in the engine bay. Going to pull the windshield again and make damn sure that silly leak I had is fixed. And of course make sure all the rust on the floor is fixed along with cutting out some of the tranny tunnel to stuff the muffler up even higher.

So once again another massive project!

This stuff is super light, I did not want the heavy bitumen stuff, the xj has never really been noisy or extra hot so I went with foil covered foam. I think the 120 feet I ordered weighed less than 5 lbs. and only really changed it out because the stock insulation was wet and stinky! Also the bitumen stuff would have added 100 lbs for everything I wanted to insulate.
