Ok, until we can prove worthy to have our own area. Let's make the most of the Midwest area.

First off, where are you at/where do you wheel commonly?

I'm in Columbus, Oh and usually head down into Northern Wv or hang out with a club in SW Ohio.

Joliet, IL were famous for our many prisons and our Nascar track. People around here go to "the cliffs" in Marseilles, IL and sometimes "the badlands" in Attica, IN

Sorry, i'm not from this area but i wanted to say something. You never have to feel bad here for bringing up an old thread. Just because its old doesn't make it irrelevant.

I've noticed since I have signed up, we have had 3-4 or more new members signing up from the Great Lakes area. We should have our own region! rabble rabble!

If you subtract the rear bumper on mine so am I. I think a stock XJ will get you past 90% of what Joliet has to offer and 31s get you to 99% past that maybe you should rethink what your going to do. I bought my XJ cause I work at the railyard in Elwood and my Saturn and Civic were having trouble with the snow. Btw were hiring so anyone who knows where Elwood, IL is shoot me a pm and I'll send you the link of where to apply.

Hi from the Land 'o Lincoln. Last snowfall wasn't much of a challenge. I live north of "The Cliffs" at Marseilles. I don't "wheel 'em", just fix 'em, & drive 'em, daily. I use mine to get to & from work. In general, I find my jeep is more consistently reliable thru the snow than any other 4x4 I've owned &/or used over the years. The only thing I have handy that beats it either has a bucket (Case 1845C) or more than 4 wheels (WABCO MG). The jeep isn't the toughest, or the best at any single thing, but it is reasonably well balanced in its performance. The one thing it sux at is driving on the Chicago area expressways in the summer. The expansion joints are perfectly spaced to make the ride miserable. My old XJ was like a kid's rocking horse on I-88. I hope to find a FC (Forward Control) to fill out the shop's roster. Happy trails!

Stopped by the 'Cliffs' in Marseilles (Illinois) today. Pretty cold, trying hard to snow, but nothing sticking. Half dozen or so die-hard's trailing today. Saw one xj dragged back from the trail missing a front wheel. Very gracious group there. Kid friendly. Tree top zip lines available. On site repair/build shop. Met the owner, toured the shop. A couple of mj builds in progress. Daughter & grand daughter pretty revved up about trailing (mom approves). The girls have decided that I have to build them something to run.

Found an xj project on CL that the owner seems to have given up on. Will be looking at it later in the week. If the girls approve, I'll buy it for them. I figure it will be like a puppy; they will play with it, but I'll have to feed & care for it. Could be worse.

I think I'm moving to Illinois... sounds like an awesome spot.

Good luck with the project!

Well we've had a week or so of really nice weather in the fifties & some sixties, so everything has had a chance to thaw. Now it's raining & getting cold again. My guess is that the 'Cliffs' in Marseilles will be extremely muddy and slippery this weekend. Sounds like a perfect time to go watch some seriously muddy off roading.
