Awesome. I can't wait to see how this turns out. As I get older, I'm more attracted to small little sports cars like that.

Hey SAR, I saw domed pistons in that block. Does that have a hemispherical combustion chamber? (Hemi for us in the US)

What's been done to the block? I'm amazed how clean it is.

saar
10-28-2011, 12:57 AM
Hi,

the block had been cleaned in a "special wash machine" at a local engine rebuild workshop.
Actually, it looks so clean mostly thanks to the Nikon flash :-)
It is not so shiny in the real life :-)

I'm not sure I understood the question regarding the pistons (maybe due to my English which is not that good...) anyway, those are new liners/pistons for the older Europe's models.

msmoorenburg, I would love to do that, all I have to do is convincing my wife that we should move with the kids for few months :-)

Thanks,
Saar

SAAR, there are two basic designs in two valve heads. One is just any old shape for the combustion chamber. The other is the hemispherical. It is basically round inside and has an intake on one side of the head and the exhaust on the other. This design was used by Chrysler Corporation for many years and was so efficient, that when it came to drag racing, no one could touch the "Hemis". They still use this head design to day in their V8s. Other companies have used it too. Toyota used to have a 1.6L hemi that was a real screamer under 22 pounds (1.5 atmospheres of boost), which was really good for a stock motor in the 70s. Your domed pistons are the right shape for that.

4.3LXJ,
thank you for the information.
cantab27,
Not too many of them, but there are people who love it.
lately people import those from the USA/Europe - it become a little easier to import cars older than 30 years.

One more step...
I decided to put the engine back in before the paint job, therefore, I had to paint the engine area....

Thank you :)
According to the guy to paint it for me (I just prepared it to the painting, I let a professional do the actual paint job), it looks ok for a guy with no experience....
So I'm not sure I should do other's cars too :)
(second thought, now I have experience :) )

Well yes, but tests vary. For instance I smog, but in AZ I would have to dyno with shifting points and be sniffed under load. In MD, no mods allowed. I was just curious as to what the inspection entailed.

you need to move over this way if you like custom stuff & running it legally on the street, here, inspection is supposed to be pretty detailed, however, most places pretty much check horn, headlights, tail / brake / signal lights, plus wipers, & you get a new sticker & off you go for a year. no smog, no emmision testing, no sniffer, no hook up to your computer, most places dont pop hood, & if they did, to check powersteering system for leaks, and good belt on power steering pump if applicable, & brake fluid, & you had a custom engine, they would be excited, curious, but nothing to give any problems with, no converter, no problem, most places around these parts dont even jack cars up to check brakes & suspension exhaust leaks like they are supposed to.

That's how it is where i live, except the only things required to check are lights, horn, fuel cap, and a rolling check of the brakes.

Oh and insurance.

here, they also check alignment, headlight aim, emission, brake/handbrake, first aid kit, warning triangle and fire extinguisher.

then got a sticker for year rolling

Hi,

Sorry for the late response....
Yearly test in Israel is a test that every car should pass.
They check:
Brakes, tires, smoke, steering and many other annoying stuff ( in Israel modifications are not allowed, so for the jeep owners that test is a nightmare ....)
