Well my name is AJ. Im 21, married with two daughters. My Xj is a 1987. It has the 4.0 motor in it. I have done all the work on it my self. When i bought it it was completely stock. It is the Cherokee Chief. I built my own bumper, bought the 4.5 in Rubican Express lift, painted it myself. I have rolled it once messing around in a field. I got it pretty straight afterwords. I live in Bakersfield CA.

If it were my "friend" there would be damage to him from me after he leaned out the window.

Lets just say he got an elbow to the face because i had taken my seat belt off right before it happened so when i landed on him i dropped elbow first onto his face. He had a nice black eye. umm ya i will post some pics of the damage, you can see how it looks now in all of the pics if you look at the passenger top. It still has a few ripples.

I love my hood vents. They are the Lebaron hood vents. I got them from a friend. I noticed about a 10 to 20 degree difference on the trail and around town about 30.

I cant post the pics right now but i will in about an hour or two...

Oh Melissa i was wondering if you have seen the thread on Naxja about the hoodvents? A guy used some home vents from the a/c and heater vents. It looked really good and they are closeable for the rainy season and cold seasons. (really neat idea)

Those hood vents actually looked pretty good!
That would take away the worry about how to deal with them in the winter, just close them!!!

They look close to the ones I have had my eyes on for $60, but a lot cheaper

Thanks for the link, I am going to do that, heck if I don't like it, I'll get another hood :D

Why not? It eliminates keeping the metal that was cut out for covers during the rain. Still does good ventilation. Look good. A lot cheaper than buying the lebarons. (if i would of thought of this i would have done it in stead of the lebarons)

Why i have them? or why I wouldnt want to do that with them?

We used to buy and sell used stuff on the weekends and some stuff was left over when we stopped.

I wouldn't want to use them cuz they seem a bit flimsy and could possibly rust easily, I would rather use plastic ones or other material.

Do you have hood vents? Even with the Lebaron one my hood became flimsy. Think about it no matter what vents you are going to use if you cut a section out of the hood it will become flimsy. Theres nothing you can do except reinforce it from underneath. Either way though the hood serves no purpose except covering the engine compartment.

Rusting might be an issuse, but I still think that as cheap as it is and since I don't off road ( I'm a weeny :headbag: ) that they would work well for me.

I think I really am going to give this a shot, I need to get a water pump put in and at the same time I will have the vents done. The worst that can happen is I'll totally hate them and get a different hood

Thanks again for the info, I'd rather do cheap vents and then decide I don't like it, rather than expensive vents and decide I don't like them.

Ya melissa, Give it a shot. like you said the worst that can happen is you dont like them. But like i said i wish i had seen that before i did mine lol... Actually i am going to get some measure ments and see if they will still work on mine. If they do i am going to be doing it to mine. I gotta get mine up and moving again though... its been down since 5/17 so i need to get it running...

If you do it make sure to take pics of the turn out..

hope it works for ya keep in mind that the ones on the naxja thread are floor vents like from a mobile home cuz the ones i have are cieling vents and probably wouldn't look as smooth on the hood.

Well I bought the vents today and I will for sure take pics, I gonna take my jeep on down to a "professioal" fabricator and have him cut the holes out for me as soon as I can, I also bought paint to have my hood painted at the same time :cheerleader:

Yup, I'm going to have the vents painted to match the hood

I am going to try and have this all done and a water pump installed with in the next two weeks, it all depends on how busy the shop is.

I ended liking the 4x12 vents and I am thinking up top on the hood (right about where your are) is where they will end up

Ya one of the offroad magazines did a thing on the hood vents and where mine are at is the best place for them (their study says). It allowed the most hot air out of there. The cool air comes in from the grill and out through the vents. You will actually see the heat coming out of them.
