Why do some websites, when open, do not allow you to use ctrl-L or ctrl-O? For instance when I'm in photobucket and want to go to another website I hit ctrl-L and it usually goes to the address bar but it doesn't work with photobucket. There are a couple other websites that i frequent and doesn't let these keys work. What gives? WTF IS GOING ON? HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD!!!??? I have to use all this energy lifting my hand off the keyboard and alllll the way over to the mouse to drag the heavy cursor up to the address bar and by that time i have no energy to click on it. Of course after that I have to type the site in but i'm already sleeping by that time. It's just so annoying.....

Give me a website it doesn't work on.

First off I didn't know about the CTRL+__ combos. I've never used them. A quick look shows they are part of Internet Explorer. So unless IE has something built into it that allows website to disable it's shortcuts, a website shouldn't be able to.

I use firefox.

www.photobucket.com. When i click on one of my pictures and it brings it up to full screen this ctrl+L does not work.

For firefox, ctrl+L is to highlight the address bar. ctrl+o is to open a file. for IE, ctrl+o opens the address box. I always use shortcuts and rarely touch the mouse. It's just quicker and a habit since my computer-nerd days in college.

lol, I'm sorry I just woke up. You said photobucket before. :headbag:

I uploaded a picture and clicked it to make it full screen, but it just make's it full size in the window, not full screen. Hmmm I wonder if I need a bigger picture.

I honestly wish I knew what you guys were talking about. I don't think you should waste your time trying to explain though. I have Firefox, and I did get the words keyboard and mouse but the rest blew right over my head. It's OK though. My grandson has tried to explain computer things to me, but if he's here I just let him straighten any problems out. He's 12 by the way.:o:coffee:

It's simple. On your browser click on "file" at the top left. You'll see open tab, new window, open file, etc. To the right of each of these are shortcuts like ctrl+O, ctrl+T and so. Instead of dragging your mouse and clicking on file and then open file, you can just click ctrl+O and it's done. They are simply shortcuts to tasks. If your mouse breaks then you still can use the browser :)

Try this:

Alt+F then ctrl+N

You open a new window.

Yeah look at the all the words on the top menu bar. They all have one letter underlined. That's the letter for the shortcut. For the menu bar you use Alt+ the letter than is underlined and then in the submenu it's ctrl+ underlined letter. :)

We were trained to do it this way in college to troubleshoot computers that don't have a functional mouse. Basically the entire class has a 35 computers and no mouse of any kind. Just a keyboard so you get a hang of using these shortcuts just to do you work. It's kinda neat.

The only one I use regularly is Ctrl-T. But I knew the others were there too but never use them.
