After sitting for awhile, except for a couple of trips to town, my son and I decided it was time to get HUMWEE muddy. Fortunately we had a little rain so we headed up Cohasset Road where Ai knew we would find a little mud. We wasted a little wheeling time messing with some new top hardware he scored at Surplus City, so we waited until Sunday morning to head out. We hadn't had a chance to clock it. Speedo doesn't work yet. But it does about 60 - 65 on the freeway. Doesn't do too bad on the steep hills. He had to shift down in some places the XJ did, but that is a pretty steep hill for a paved road. It climbs to from seal level to about 3000' in about ten miles. We hit the gravel and dropped air.
With the swampers and their stiff sidewalls, 10 psi hardly makes the tires bulge with light little Mighty Mite. 500# to each corner isn't much for them.

We went through some puddles. Paul hit one a little fast and found out why we were working on windshield wipers.

You can see it was a little deep by the mud on my bumper. I just crept through and still had some muddy water in my radiator.

We found a little hill to play on. He parked it on a side hill. No big deal for a rig rated for a 43° side hill at speed.

I took the XJ up a different part with some rocks. Made it up most of the way to the top, backed up and made it over. We tried the video of it, and could not make it up. We got lost in the drama and missed the shot of it balanced on the rear wheels with the front up a couple of feet.

But a fun day nonetheless for the Mighty Mites maiden voyage. More to come in a couple of weeks.
