wanted to post my build over here, so Im copying this over from cherokeeforum:

Hey fellas, My name is Collin and im 15(friends call me cooter, i have no idea why). Everyone in my family drives a jeep so of course i have always wanted to get one. I decided that i wanted 97-01 cherokee 4x4 4.0l a few years ago, because, lets just face it... XJs are bad***. I've been on this site for about a year readin up, and finally got an xj.

...I really wanted a stock one so i could do the lift and everything myself, but almost 6 months of dealing with sketchy people on craigs and stealerships, I finally found the one. It was just the slightest chance that i happened to check craigslist while i was in nashville, it had literally been on there for 1 day and i decided to text him. Ended up meeting up with the guy to check it out the next morning and when i got in to test drive it and didnt have to adjust the mirrors or anything, i knew it was meant to be.

anyway heres the Specs:
2001 Limited Cherokee
Fully loaded/woodgrain/leather
factory tow package 3.73 gears
135k miles
chrysler 8.25 axle
5.5 lift (3.5 rubicon express aal lift, 3.5 coils, 2'' spacers/blocks/shackles, 6'' rc shocks, rc hd steering stabalizer
sway bar discos
jeep ravine rims
33x10.5 bfg km2s
offroad front bumper
defender roof rack with 4 pro comp lights/full size spare
flip out dash moniter/wired for subs/ sub box

after some talking to the guy about it, i talked him down to 3500$ since he was a landscaper and the inside of it was filthy and it has a broken ac, saggy headliner, rear end leaking. horrible interior, needs all new exaust, paint is scratched all over, coolant resivoir is filled with mud. So needless to say i had my work cut out for me, but thats just the fun of owning a jeep! We worked things out and my dad drove back to nashville the next week and bought it. Ive had it about a week now, and have wasted no time.., so decided to start a build thread.:D

when i got it home i got to work on cleaning it. he forgot to mention, that there was tabbaco EVERYWHERE in it. you name it, cigarrettes, dip cans, dried tabbaco, dip spit, I had to miss the first week of school because my sinuses got pretty messed up from all the tabbaco fumes.)
So the first week i got it i went to work on gutting it, cleaning carpets, taking out headliner, fixing coolant, painting some stuffs, and figuring out what i want to do to it.
I had to do a little modifications to get it in the garage... so off came the rack and lights,

had to jump her off and ran out of gas, so revved it all the way to the gas station and put 55$ into it and drove around for a few hours and she did great. stereo sounds awesome, clean inside, engine is running properly.

And just started removing the side molding, looks alot cleaner and it's pretty hot out so the glue is just peeling right off.

started thinking about what my future plans for this build are going to be. Gonna keep it looking clean, very capable offroad, and still be able to dd it. in order of what i want to do:

-lower it
-get some 20'' rims
-low profile tires
-2 15'' subs

haha just kidding.

within the next few months:
-get ac fixed
-re seal diffs
-buff paint and get rid of all the scratches
-fog lights
-crager soft 8s 4'' bs( i really want blue beadlocks like ktmracer's rig, but probably not)
-tint front 2 windows 35% and cargo windows 5% (so i dont have to worry about theft)
-get an amp and hook my sub up
-make some sort of carpeted shelf for the left side of the cargo area, (same height at my sub box so i can make a nylon top that lays on top to hide the whole cargo area and sits l level with the rear seat and rear window)
-blue halogen headlight bulbs, new projector housings
-led interior lighting. (half of my bulbs are out)
-clear turn signals/ maybe smoke rear lights. (please give me some feedback)

when my 33s wear out:
-get rid of the spacer and blocks
-rustys 6.5 full leaf packs
-rustys 6.5 coils
-35'' tires/ full size spare

long term plans :
-rear tire carrier bumper
-long arms
-lockers
-diff covers

Hey thanks! Fun to see a build. We need to redo the headliner on our 1999. Covering the visors was a nice touch and looks like they were done well.

thanks, it definately wasnt the most fun thing, but it looks great and smells so much better.

if you do yours, i suggest spending the 2$ more and getting the good name brand glue. mines starting to wrinkle in places already, take your time and it will look great.

and visors where very time consuming but they just add a nice touch, and i did my console a few weeks ago to:

Wrinkles! Oh no! :shocker: That's gotta be disappointing. Well at least you know how to fix the problem.

That is one clean looking XJ.. Sorry to hear about the tobacco mess.. But at least you are starting off with a very clean inside and out XJ now.. I love those rims.. Thought about tryi to find a set of 5 of those when I go to replace my tires again.. That way I'll have a complete matching set of tires..
