So i checked out their pretty awesome front tow bars and i think they are nice and all but 650.00 for a tow bar? O_O

So here is my question. How hard would it be to fab up your own tow bar? I kind want to do something that folds up into the bumper and be apart of the bumper then when i need to pull my jeep back home it comes out. Does this sound possible to other people?

It is possible. The hard part is that you need two joints on the bumper at each side. A regular tow bar needs one joint. The ball end would have one fixed arm and one that would be pinned in place so it could move. On the bumper side you could use a ujoint with tractor yokes that will bend 90°.

Years ago when I was in HS and had a 46 CJ2A we made a new front bumper for it from 4" channel iron. it had tabs in the front similar to today's bumpers used with D rings as extraction points. We had a towbar made from 2x2 angle that attached to the tabs with tractor lift pins. We only hauled it short distances (less than 20 miles) and never had a problem.

$650!? You could prob buy a used dolly trailer or even a trailer for the Jeep for that price

To use with a stock bumper may be a bit more labor intensive. However if you had an aftermarket bumper with the D-ring tabs it should be pretty easy to build one.

yeah im going to be hauling mine up to 5 hours 1 way so im kinda worried about it. and 650 for a tow bar is outrageous. but 100 dollar tow bars scare me.

If you were to build your own I would suggest having an aftermarket front bumper, as the stock from bumper is too weak to bolt mounts to.

Another option is to get a Tomken tow plates. If you don't have the stock front tow hooks you will need the brackets for them to mount the tow plate. However, I am not impressed by it only having 4 mounting bolts.
