Hey everyone been a member here for a little while but didnt really ever get to post much so i thought that i would throw my jeep up here and just take a little time to explain the direction its headed and also get some more ideas from the community.

Started out with a 98 Xj with somewhere around 169xxx on it the guages didnt work and the radio worked but you couldnt see the display.. I didnt care i wanted an xj and it was cheap.
So i picked it up and within a day had all the guages workin again and it was like new (to me). This is how she looked after a budget boost with some zj coils up front and a bastard pack rear.

That setup was however temporary and just going to be used till i had a few more bucks to continue. This was the recent scene in the driveway for about 2 months as the entire jeep got an overhaul

So the reason behind the entire rebuild was not only to improve the overal function of the jeep but to just maintain it as well. I gutted the carpet and found some rust that had to go. Im obsesive about rust... absolutely hate it.

Once all that was done i knew that i wanted to never have to do it on this jeep again so i did a little additional reinforcing and then wire wheeled everything and whipped it down with M.e.k and coated it with chassis saver.. awesome stuff!!! This was all for the rear except for the rear bumper thats still in progress.

Back to the front know. I had ordered some cragar v-5s and goodyear wrangler duratracs 33x12.50s that were put on just before the tear down. But the new front parts consist of long arms, new 4.5 inch coils, new shocks iron man4x4 trac bar, YJ brake lines, New u joints, new wheel bearings, axle seals, and rotors and breaks.

Thanks everyone it has been a long process i haveonly had the jeep for just over a year now and it has seen several different lifts on the short arms and 3 different sets of tires 31,32, and 33s. That bumper it is air tight i am a welder by proffesion so thats one thing. The way that bumper will be mounted is with 2.5 square tubing into the "frame" rails about 16 inches on each side with a total of 12 bolts in each side all grade 8 of course. I was rather surprised with the long arms because rough country made them and i see a lot of posts on some other forums that would make you believe that they made all there parts from pvc pipe and thread lock but those are pure beef to the contrary. Also my front stinger is going to be taken off soon for a custom front because it was just a quick throw together bumper that i have grown to dislike..

I also did some work to make the jeep a little more friendly to my girlfriend (happy wife happy life) she is short, (5'1) Im not (6'2) so she has issues getting in if we are parked in some weird spots on the trail so i tig welded up a handle that is to be mounted on the inside windshield pilar soon

But it serves a dual purpose to show my cheap tj flares love em or hate em there cheaper than any other 4.5 inch flare and save me from being bothered by bacon.. haha I also have some shackle relocating brackets that i am yet to install because of a minor issue with them but that is coming soon along with another poser pic to show any improvements.

Also just throwin this out there i have several friends with xjs all running 35s and up but i have a philosophy of build it well reinforce everything and set it up for future fun rather than half ___in it and fixing it all the time plus i have seen this happen to 3 of my friends now and i know it has little to do with how they are built but it was only the ones on 35s its happend to so im tryin to stay away from the bad juju. But it gives me extra parts cuz i now have the front axle out of this jeep as a spare that is being trussed untill i go to the ford hp44

So I pulled into advanced auto today and there was a cop sitting in there lot no sooner I get out of my jeep I hear " where is your front bumper?" Me-"um on the front of my jeep?" Cop- "i didn't see one." Me- well its definitely on there. The cop then proceeds to question me about my bumper and how high it is off of the ground and I said well I know it is legal it just passed pa inspection. It measures 28 inches off the ground. Then he proceeds to be a royal ass clown and get into how it is registered. Registered as a truck I'm allowed 32 inches as a sedan 20 inches... Hmm ok so he goes on an decides to give me 5 days to fix it and I ask well can i just register it as a truck and be done. And he starts being a prick about it saying no this is the problem now and it has to be fixed like it is. To fill in some more info on my jeep it is only 4.5 inches of lift on 33s and he is telling me that my bumper needs to be dropped 9 inches What a retard I am registration to keep it clean as possible but he was literally just mad cuz someone f'd his day up cuz the guys in advanced told me he was there to get carpet cleaner cuz someone threw up in his squad car.. good fat ass now I'm gonna turn my stinger upside down so I can be in accordance with his gay ass standards.....

I just did a search and this is all I can find for PA :
PENNSYLVANIA
Increasing the wheel track by the use of spacers thicker than 1/4 inch is illegal. On medium and heavy duty trucks, the rear bumper must be within 30 inches of the ground when the truck is unloaded.
Thats not much where is he getting the other rules from ???

Here's us :
CALIFORNIA
Frame height can be no more than 27" for vehicles with a GVWR under 4500 pounds. For heavier vehicles the limit is 30". Body lifts cannot exceed 5". Vehicle headlight height shall not surpass 42" to the center of the headlight.

I have no clue but all I can say is with every action there's an equal and opposite reaction.. my reaction will be a stinger mounted upside down and watching a cop get pissed lol but seriously I picked up some tubing today for 2 projects 1 being a new bumper and 2 a piece a 4x4 tubing that will be cut to 4 x 2.5 and turned into unibody rail stiffeners.. homemade style for less that 25 bucks. Heck yeah. The bumper will probably be a basic version for the time being due to time constraints. Pics will be up tomorrow of the new bumper progress. All in all got my bumper tubing 2x6 and the 4x4 for the unirails and two pieces of 1/4 inch that. Are 12'' square for a grand total of 58 bucks... Score. P.s Pennsylvania sucks Haha :rotfl2:

Man I love that thing. My grandfather gave it to me when I got my first car. It's my primary jack even though it needs 4 inch blocks to actually lift my jeep up anymore so the tires don't touch. I have thought about building one with a longer lift stoke. The bumper is no where near what I wanted to build but it'll do for now I'm gonna try to work on it today for a little

Didnt do much to the jeep today i was out with the girlfriend most of the day figured it was time to spend some time with her as she waited with me for an hour and a half while i cut out a replacement quarter panel for my car lol. Also wanted to take this time to explain the next project one that has been on my mind for a while now. SO since we all own xjs im sure most of us have seen the tnt unibody rail reinforcements.. Well i am a full believer in that these will save an xjs life so i went to check them out of the website and they arent all that expensive $1xx dollars eh ok not that bad but a search at the junkyard led me to a 60 inch long piece of 3x4 that will be cut down the seems and cut to length for both sides and then drilled for plug welds along the unibody and then welded on and the long arm crossmember will be welded to it as well and then the crossmember will be made to be center section removable since rough countys isnt. Everything will then be coated with my favorite stuff Chassis saver and Monstaliner. :D

My least favorite rod is most definitely 6010/6011 the slag on it just pisses me off cuz you have to wire wheel every pass religiously to make sure you get it all off. In a V-groove like for a cert test with an open root its awesome though other than that not my fav.

Yeah mine likes to hit the duty cycle pretty quick when I run out of position. I really need to upgrade my stick welder I should just get an esab multimaster but don't have that kinda dough lol but will definitely be buying a MIG that runs on 220 soon enough

You can get a good stick welder for like 250 and do everything other than really thin stuff. Even the harbor freight gasless ones are ok for some stuff if you are on the 100$ budget you can do a lot with them. My friend has one and I welded his whole exhaust up with it at his place.

Hi flow is on along with flowmaster 40 series. everything is welded on no clamps! My sound clip is taking forever to upload so itll be on in a few min along with a few pictures! Also today while the old exhaust was cut off i took this as an opportunity to wire wheel all the mud off the under coat, also welded the seams on the unibody rail on the passenger side and welded the leaf spring hangers to the unibody. then Chassis saver'd everything on the passenger side up to the long arms.

I really need to bed line it now so it is driveable inside cuz at around 35-45 consstant speed that thing is a mongruel it is just awesomly abnoxious.:D Got me a few looks when i was out in the city today... lol Also Just got done installing the new head unit and that was the suckiest install i have ever had. i was using the harness that came with the head unit in the box and with every other car i have installed one in it is pretty much just color match and maybe one or two you guess on.... So finally made some legit headway tonight on the bumper after having one side of the mount all welded up and realized it was going to leave to much gap between the headerpanel and the bumper had to cut it off and slightly modiy the mounting brackets... so no more tow hooks but i dont need them anyway i have some super heavy d ring tabs ;) After cutting that all to pieces i re-laid out all my measurements and went to town welding it up this time i used 6013 3/32 wire. Tomorrow mornin before work im gonna lay a coat of chassis saver on it and hopefully install it for the drive to work at 145pm lol.

Too true... It was just one of those days that pushes you to the end of the rope and the jeep capped that off. I'm hoping it is just the sending unit and nothin else is going bad. But it was fairly typical sending unit failure symptoms both times recently, good pressure on cold start and as the engine heated up a sudden drop in pressure. I'm also changing the oil as I have heard nothin but bad Recently about fram filters and wondering if that may have something to do with this. I'm running castrol 10w 30 and fram filter.

There is no garage lol. Well there is one but can't work in it due to the 2012 Harley in it. Nope in the winter its dress warm wear layers and brew the coffee. Lol but the good thing about monstaliner( what my interior is being done in) is it can be applied at a pretty low temperature and still dry properly. My garage isn't attached. The PO converted the attached garage into a den, and built an unattached garage out back. I do have a lovely fireplace in the den, and I get free skids from work. So it sorta works out.

Nothing better than building a fire and laying a blanked out on the floor and cuddling with the woman.

Lol. :D that truss has drawn a lot of attention from some of my local friends I'm hoping to make like 3-5 more immediately for sale. I'll also be selling a complete trussed axle minus the shafts soon. Speaking of truss I'm going out to burn this thing home pics as always!

Made a new backing plate for it since the original stamped one was now trashed... Also welded a reinforcing ring to the floor so there would be some structrue there......I shoulda just comp cut this damn thing....
This was all done with a harbor freight self shielding wire mig none of it is cleaned up and still has the slag on it. There is a lesson behind this however for those curious how self shielding wire works Self shielding wire even though it is being run through a mig gun is actually stick welding because it is DCEP instead of DCEN. DCEP is reverse polarity. DCEN is straight polarity you run dcen if you have an inert gas for solid wire(required)

It's the more expensive one its actually not mine but my other MIG that I run. Solid wire on has a leaking regulatorand is sucking air in causing weld defects...boo

Hey for a cheap welder that still looks like it is going a damn good job!!

Don't let it fool ya it will lay a nice bead it will actually run almost as nice as my Lincoln that I keep the bottle on. I would have hooked the bottle up to this welder but the regulator was leaking cuz the more expensive harbor freight ones actually have a gas line hook up built in to them and with it they run surprisingly well. However my lincoln is my best friend of all my welders (3) lol. The real difference in them I just the quality of parts and how they are built. Like my Lincoln gun is totally rebuildable the harbor freight one isn't. And the wires come unhooked inside the gun a lot so u have to rip it apart n re attach them often.... For the buck they are good but I wouldn't buy one I got my Lincoln for I think it was 600 and its worth every extra dollar.

It does sound good but it is just obnoxious especially going up hills and stuff you can't hear yourself think inside, it may be time to pipe it out the back instead of underneath it infront of the axle lol..

On a side note this jeep has been frustrating the shit outta me for a long time and as long as it can come to be bearable soon ill be keeping it but if things don't stop happening with it I'm dragin it to the scrap yard. And ill just buy another and swap all my parts.

That makes a huge difference. I have a full 3" all the way back off the headers. But the pipe goes all the way to the back. It is good and loud at slow speeds but is quieter at speed, not from the engine noise, but from the wind carrying the sound away.
