OK .. this is not real techo I know ... but ... it might be useful for someone else whos a cheapskate - or not living near a junkyard full of XJs. ;)

Plenty should recognise this problem ...

The plastic button gets affected by U.V. ... and one or all of the three little tabs break off ... and it disappears ..

Then its out with the multi tool to lever up the pin if you want to move the cross rails around .. :bang:

All thats needed for a repair ... or preventative maintenance ... is a thin strip of metal and some quality zip ties.

Step 01 .... Cut, bend and shape the piece of tin to fit in the inside of the button ... galvanised is good.

Step 02 .... Sit it in the push button.[/B]

Step 03 .... Curse & Cuss whilst lining up the bits placing the button in position.[/B]

...... No piccies needed of cussing .... :D

Step 04 .... Keep the button in position and lock in place with zipties.[/B]

Fiddly job ... but simple overall ... and the piece of tin is simply extra packing ... Coz the zipties allow the button to stick out a bit more proud than normal.

Replace the zipties if they start to get U.V. affected .... I normally do it every 6mnths.

Why did I even bother messing with fixing it ..

Coz you wouldnt believe what Chrysler Australia thinks XJ roof rack parts are worth ..:D .. :D

Good info here... Wish my button piece for the outside wasnt missing.

As mine is right now... I can't move one bar(it's all the way forward) and the other one i move so it fits the load
