well this all started with wanting the look of an or-fab bumper but the strength of a jcr bumper which i didnt see in or-fabs

so i started looking around for ideas and other bumper options and just wasnt finding what i wanted
so i sat down and started up autocad and got to work

with the plans layed out i only found one problem
i didnt have a bender
so after some more searching i found jeeptubes and contacted Mark
they had a wrap around bumper and after having him change the lower tube and adding a couple peices i had the parts for my base on the way

so now i needed to tie into the unibody

nutstrip HA

i started by opening up the rear of the unibody tubes
(id suggest using a cut off if you follow this and not jumping to the torch like i did as your fuel lines run into the unibody tubes and one rusty pin hole and you could find your self having a bad day ..my gas tank had been removed at this point)

well look at that hole plenty of room for some 4x2x3/16 tube
so after drilling some holes, welding in some nuts and cutting around the fill hoses and rear leaf spring bolts i had my nut strips

now how do you create a round tube bumper with the strenght of plate and box tubing so you have recovery points and towing capacity

thats it you create a backbone for the tube to attach too

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l601/EKing81/Plums%20bumper/HPIM0453.jpg

some 5x2-1/2x3/16 sleeves over the 4x2 nicely and is perfect to cope out for the 1-3/4 tube keeping the tube at a 2-1/2" spacing
joining the 5x2-1/2 with some 3x2x3/16 tube allows you to weld along the 1-3/4 and gives a place for the receiver tube

inside the 5x2-1/2 is 3/4x2 plates welded to the inside for d-ring tabs and then cap the tube with some 3/16 plate

once the back bone is done add your tube

for the tire carrier i did mitter cuts and welded it all up but all future builds will be bent as i now have a bender and ill do a thread on that later if i can find the pics lol

anyway finished pics

I like this design alot.. I wish I had the fab skills and equipment to build something like that.. You got plans for a front bumper to match??

yeah part of the front bumper is shown in my intro its still not complete yet i keep running into other projects lol

ive been working 55-60 hours a week and im building a rear bumper for a customer on the weekends so the front might be a ways off
atleast untill the floor is replaced and the new axles are under it

couple pics of unfinished front winch bumper

That thing is Sexy... now maybe i misse it, what did you use for the spindle? I am needing to add a tire carrier to my bumper i made not that long a go, but i am having a hard time finding a good cheap spindle.

I don't know what you consider cheap.. but I think this option (http://shop.jeeptubes.com/product.sc?productId=37&categoryId=9)would be a pretty good deal for what you are looking for.. especially to have the grease fitting, and have something that is completely rebuildable... $48.00 doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.. at least not to me..

i used the exact hinge kit that bluedragon posted from jeeptubes
for the money you cannt beat it
great quality great custoner service
and like blue said completely rebuildable and jeeptubes sells all the parts seperately

im sure if you had any problems with this spindle tho except the bearing once in awhile Mark at jeeptubes would take care of you
