so i decided to build another XJ to do some wheeling.

picked this up as a trade for some labor to install a lift kit on another jeep.

1992, 4.0, AX-15, NP231, D30, D35

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0019.jpg

first up was the intake swap from a 99+ 4.0.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/17b0d649.jpg

then i pieced together a cheapo lift consisting of a bastard pack, JK Rubicon shocks, Rustys 4.5 coils, JK lower control arms and some homebrew UCA's
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/91caa06f.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/fbc97dcd.jpg

Added Rustys steering and track bar
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0004.jpg

then made my doors removable
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/4eeb4585.jpg

then threw some 31" BF M/T's on it on some 16" JK steelies
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/d02de39f.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/6f74ea36.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/062f7028.jpg

took it to a few events and had a blast
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/JeepBeach2010/100MEDIA95IMAG0072.jpg

then it was time to fix some rust
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/f878d37c.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/84673d4b.jpg

and then add some bedliner
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/IMAG0062.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/IMAG0061.jpg

I loved the way the Jeep rode and flexed, so i kept it that way for a while
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0224.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0220.jpg

then came part 2 of the build.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0861.jpg

started with a paint job and some 32x12x16 nitto's, along with some 12" shocks for the front
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0324.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0400.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a239/Causeforconcern4321/92%20XJ/IMAG0645.jpg

and then i decided i didnt like leaf springs any more...so i fixed that
out with the old d35 and bastard pack, and in with the new stuff....which included
-locked 8.8 with truss
-4:10's
-double traingulated 4 link
-shock hoop with 13" shocks
-cherry bomb muffler (only thing that would fit)
-SYE

Yep the Jeep looks great. I am suprised how good those JK wheels looked on there though. May have to find me a set, and a set of adapters.

I've been wondering about a coil rear axle on an XJ for a while, and then here it is!

Very nice, and thanks for taking all the time to post this. I wonder what the guy that traded you the XJ thinks now. :D

Wow, a complete build in five minutes. Great job. What coils did you use for the rear? After my last outing it seems I just cannot make a set of leaves flex the way I want without some settling.

Yeah I've seen them build a rear coil suspension on "Xtreme" before but not on an XJ. I'd like to know more about how it is done specifically for the XJ.

Would this be bad for a daily driver?

That is a good question Tony. Some say double triangulated four links over steer. Some say not. I have been looking into this and downloaded a four link calculator etc. I am not quite sure whether I want a double triangulated or TJ style. I think there might be a reason the auto manufactures went the way they did.

thanks.

currently im running stock LJ rubicon rear coils,

but i may change them out for something else after i add all the weight from building a bumper/tire carrier and sliders.

4.5" on stock LJ coils, that is good to know. I am currently getting closer to the idea of a linked rear. How is it on the road?

i can give whatever pics or answer any questions you may have on it.

i daily drive mine, there is some body roll because i currently dont run sway bars, but something like an anti-rock would work great with it.

on the street its nice and smooth and handles fine, and cruises 90 for hours on the highway very comforably

a TJ style setup would be fine, but having to run a track bar makes it not very desireable.

Yeah, body roll. Something I am going to address soon. I had to ditch the sway bar with the last track bar I made. I will be working on that next.

nice build the four link looks good

i might of missed it but do you have limiting straps on the rear or just counting on the shocks to limit the travel?
