My headlights and fog lights when still on when I shut my jeep off and then hit the light switch off, stay on for about three minutes, then turn themselves off.

Does everyone else's do the same thing? I really like this feature, just curious about everyone else's as well.

You have the Sentinel System. This option was standard on Laredo models and was offered on some Sport and Country. I have been told it was also offered on the Classic but cannot confirm this.

Your headlights will stay on for approx 3-4 minutes, but your parking lights will go off right away.
Time duration is non-adjustable, unlike the GM version that was adjustable from 1 minute up to just shy of 10 minutes. Who the heck would need 10 minutes? Dunno.

You are right, its a nice feature to have. But real frustrating IF you aren't aware that the newly purchased XJ has it.

When I bought our 91 Laredo, I was not aware of this and was completely frustrated the first time. I thought, GREAT, now I have to replace the switch!
The 91 didn't come from the DAPO with an owner's manual.

I think she is talking about when you turn the key off with the lights on. You then turn the lights off (push in the switch) and the headlights stay on for 3 minutes then automagically shut off. Mine does that.

Mine does it for 30 seconds. Newer ones must have a longer timer.

When I first got my Jeep I used to stand and watch it just to make sure that they really would go off :driving:

Thanks everyone, I was curious, and now I know

Mine does too, but not consistently. I haven't referred to the manual but wonder if it's overrideable...?
Oh, dirts4racin2, did you know your tatoo has six toes?!

Just kiddin'

X2 on the older Limited versions too. I like it. Sometimes wish it stayed on longer.

I have some ideas how I could use it, but what do you use it for?

Lighting my way to the door, unloading gear ... hey, sometimes just being a female alone at night outside of the vehicle.

Check the fuse-that system has it's own fuse in the fuse box.

My 2000 Sport does that. The previous owner told me he thought the switch was broken so I never waited the 3 minutes to see if they would go off!
