pitman arm tie rod end is clunking. I put it on about a year ago and only off roaded twice. I'm wondering what caused it's quick failure.......

Reminds me of some of the complaints I was reading about Rusty's stuff yesterday.

Cheap chinese junk from AZ or what mudd.

Crown parts from 4wd hardware. I replaced all my steering parts at one time. It didn't break or anything. It clunks when you change direction. I climbed under there and felt it with my hand and it clunks right on the joint.

I was driving to 4wd today and noticed every bump would rattle my hands numb. The steering wheel would shake and shimmy over every bump on the road and it drove me nuts. I thought i was driving on metal tires or something. It was driving like a caddy before my short off road trip.

Does anyone know what brand Napa carries? They have two parts, $22, and $41. Is the $41 a moog joint?

One is a NAPA's own brand and the other is a contract which varies year to year but is usually speced pretty high. It may be MOOG this year and Deutch next year. Hard to say.

that's a cool setup. the only problem is it uses heims. Not a big fan of using them on a DD.

why? i was skeptical for a long time. But you think about this, If race cars, rally cars, jeepspeed. They all use them and beat on them a whole lot harder than you or i ever will. What's the downfall.

Why dont you like them?

not try to be a dick or anything just curious ;)

Personal experience. I had a trackbar on my TJ that used heims. I replaced the heims on average every three-four months. (4wd hardware loved me that time.) They would start clunking very lightly and then it got worse overtime. It was still usable of course but drove me nuts. Went through three of them (warranty) and then got fed up and contacted poison spider customs cuz they had heims on their website. I told em about my situation and asked if they had beefier heims i could use and they said weren't "ideal" for a DD. The ball and socket don't really hold it's tight tolerances and a little play develops. You don't notice this at all off road. I sold it and then got a JKS. Clunks-B-Gone.

Well it's fixed. I got a replacement from NAPA for $41. You can tell it's heavier duty tie rod end compared to the cheap autozone one that was on it previously. The AZ tie rod had this flimsy P.O.S grease cover too that wouldn't stay on nor keep the grease in. The napa one has an OEM boot that fills and stays filled. My steering wheel shimmy/rattle/shake is gone and it feels very firm. Me happy.

If another rod end poops out then i'm doing a steering conversion instead of investing any more $$ into this stock setup.

Nah never sprayed it. It's supposed to be self-lubricating teflon.

My neighbor and I had this same conversation a week ago (he builds numerous race cars) and he also said that it would not be as quit and smooth but i taken care of should last longer than any thing else, but he would not wan them on his DD.
