Anyone here mounted a set of these brackets? Zone Offroad, and JKS make a set. They relocate the lower shock mount above the bottom of the axle tube. Just wondering if there are any negatives to doing this.

Seems it would be a good mod if you've ever looked how low the mounts are stock.

I have not, however I saw a write up where you cut them off, move the cut off pieces up and weld it back to the piece that is left. Yeah I was really surprised how low they are.

It's on GO JEEP (http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoRearShockM.htm)

I'd forgotten about the write up on gojeep. The brackets I'm looking at raise the mount up so they wouldn't stick down below the axle at all. One thing I did notice awhile ago is the brakeline on the driverside appears it would need to be relocated somehow to use the brackets I'm looking at. The gojeep mod might be the way to go.

Something else, I suppose I would have to get new rear shocks since they wouldn't need to be as long. Don't know for sure. I know there is a range they will work in though.

They do stick down, but not by much.

You have a link to what you are talking about. I'd like to see it.

Pretty sure you have the ability to build these yourself, as long as you're above the axle line or more, your better off..........shocks to short? Hell,
just add more lift!!!!!

Side Tip: The MORE virtical your shocks are, the better........"tilted" shocks perform poorly and turn to junk sooner!! Shocks perform best when virtical.

Mudd, here's a link to the Zone Offroad brackets.

Spanky...Yeah I could make something, but for $30 or so, and as covered up at work as we are it would be "easier" to just buy a set. Although the "cut and reweld" mod from GoJeep looks to be fairly easy. It's all about finding the time right now either way I go.:smiley-scared002:

I WANT THOSE

my problem is with axle shims it makes the mounts not parallel to the ground. Which makes the bushings wear out really fast.

Yeah this is common with SYE Kits. The axle tilts and the lower shock mount is at an angle. Your bushing isn't designed to work at such an angle and bushings wear out. My OME shocks that i took off had a really deformed bushing when i removed it. This is why one shock is compressed more than the other at ride height.

so were would be the best place on the rear axle to put the shock mounts?

With the xj's setup, it's a trade off unless you move both upper and lower mounts. The shocks are inverted a little so moving the lower mounts more towards the pumpkin would result in a narrow shock width. You don't get good stability with a narrow shock stance. The best possible shock setup would be as close to the end of the axles as possible and as straight up and down as you can get em. That would require moving the upper mount as well. For just relocating the lowers up more, just find the spot where the lower mount bolt is horizontal and and somewhat more higher than the stock location and then weld it on.

I have seen rock crawler XJs with the shock mount welded to the spring plate but the shocks were angled almost 45* so that shoot's Spankys suggestion in the foot.

I have wanted to relocate my shock mounts but there are so many different options out there. I've looked at Detours' till my eyes crossed and still can't tell. I don't know which would be better, which set I'd need, blah, blah. I only know my mounts get whacked on the rocks.
Someone should just do all the hard work (calculations) & just tell me what to buy ... sort of like figuring how much to bump stop. :p

Which example is suggested to be followed?
JeepSpeed is a hole lot different than rock or hard core/moderate trails....

Keep the shock virtical.......either rock or JeepSpeed......any shock-jock will repeat the same words.........(with knowledge)

what about get a long u-bolt and crank that sucker down really tight on your axle leaving lots of thread exposed then put the shock on the exposed thread...USING THE SUPPLIED metal insert sleeve for your shocks then put another backing bolt on it... then just remove the excess thread from the lower portion of the bolt ... DON'T buy the cheapo autoparts store ones for lifts go to a junkyard and get a set from a heavy duty pickupyou oughta get more than enough thread to add a shock to it!

sorry for those who can't see inside my head the u-bolt would not point down like traditionally but would point towards the rear of the vehicle on one side and the other side of the axle would point forward in the same direction of the OEM shock mounts.
