If I was to go on a wheeling holiday on a budget in the USA where should I go?:cool0010:

I'm weighing up my options.

I'm fairly sure that the left coast would give you the most number of different terrains to try. Mostly it would depend on what you want the experience to be I think. Arkansas has Rock, Mud, combination Forest trails outside of the ORV park in HotSprings.

Southern california has every kind of terrain under the sun...except tropical rain forrest...In high school me and friends proved it...we loaded our dirt bikes and skis in our trucks the night before...we woke up at 5 am went surfing till 7 am took the boards home...drove to the desert rode and 4 X'd till 2 pm...drove to the slopes and skied till 10 pm...it was a total party!!!but seriously we have the beach mountains desert sand dunes colorado river...there are places to rent jeeps stock or modified...

NOR CAL is the only place to go we have Hollister,Rubicon and much much more all within hours of Redding so thats where I would head for or here in Chico. We also have a local wheeling area we call the High Lakes that is great !!! This time of year you could have mud, rocks, trail and even snow.

The real question is what kind of wheeling do you want to do? We start in the north with a temperate rain forest and lots of mud, great sand dunes at the central Oregon coast, world famous rock crawling in the Northern and Central California mountains and desert running in the south with more world famous rock crawling. The largest rock crawling area is in the state of Utah at Moab. But if you are looking for less extreme wheeling, there are plenty of areas all over the western US for that.

The wheeling depends on the type of jeep you can hire. Not sure if you cann hire jeeps you can bash about.

You can at Moab. They have Wranglers there to rent. It would take you a couple of weeks to see all the trails there and another couple of weeks to see the ones within 200 mi.

Not everyone is a Mormon in Utah. However the town of Moab is very tourist friendly, with lots of restaurants and the beer is available.

Another thing to keep in mind is time of year your comming that also can give a totally different spectrum of wheeling.I'm sure wheeling isn't the only thing you'll want to do here so keep that in mind also. Personally I would stay away from the tourest attractions but I know that if you only can get here once in your life you need to make the most of it. For that So Cal would be the best with all the amusement parks , beaches ect ect

They have pubs...but the beer is 3.0 and they serve hard stuff in a little shot bottle...the time of year could be a factor as we can get very hot in the desert...however the mountains in the summer are a perfect 80*

I live an hour from the gold coast so beaches aint high on the list. Fun parks dont do ut for me either. Rather shoot a few guns at a range, go to a nascar race, wheel and camp or fosic for gold. Utah sounds terible 3.0 beer. California sounds good just no nascar, that is one of my must do's. But that could be a road trip.

All good ideas guys, thanks.

Uhhhh we have the Infinion raceway very close I believe they have nascar there if not it would be a short trip away, as for shooting I can do that within 30 min of my house and Paradise (my town) is where the biggest gold nugget found came from (just a nugget for you boys though, only 54lbs) we do pan on the Feather river quite often and do ok , they have out lawed dredges now , at least the above water type , shaker boxes are still ok though the Sierrra Nevada Brewery is 10 min from work a couple of Big Foots would do ya just fine. Big NASCAR fan are ya?

If you are looking for some beer with some kick to it, my son the brew master can brew you up some award winning dark ale with 15% in it. It is sipping beer though. About 3 of them and you won't be going anywhere for awhile.

I'll have to find someone with a colt 45 but I'm sure I could as for the Hot Dog thats not an issue here we call them several things but we'll stick with Hot Dog for now. As for the 45 they aint all that but I understand the want to shoot one. We do have the Silver Dollar Speedway here in town mostly Sprint cars but on a dirt track they rock!! We normally go there on the 4th of July watch the races then the fireworks after

In socal you have 3 major tracks for auto racing, irwindale, fontana and willow springs...all have some sort of racing experience and school...also got world famous amusement parks, water parks...as for wheelin this time of year you have big bear and azuza canyon...night wheeling is fun in desert...I would be honored to show you the area and take you to some real mexican restaurants to get carne asada and carnitas tacos in historic settings...if you like mines and exploration wait till your summer...I'll take you to the dunes and death valley...or a trip to scotty's jeep junk yard and pick a part...I would also recommend a trip to holly weird...it's a non stop freak show...good place's to see and eat...just give me a little notice so I can make plans...:drinking:

Yes we live in Utah but on the other side from Moab.... never been there but steve (AlwaysXJ) has and he should be able to tell you more...)

Look around Easter, there is usually a Jeep Safari there (whatever that means...)

seasons are inverted from you guys... so Spring will be ranging from March to June, then summer, the fall from September to November.... not sure about the snow in Moab (it is pretty south) but I know it gets cold there in winter (probably starting october/november)
And yes it gets HOT in the summer months (June to September I guess) but it is not super hot (and dry heat anyway) so I think you can count around 100F (that is maybe 35-40C)

The Rubicon is a 14 mile trail. The Moab area has many miles of trails. In addition, there many others in adjacent areas such as the Hole In The Rock trail that are also nice. If you are coming here for a holiday, the Moab Area would be better. Also you can rent Jeeps at Moab. You cannot at the Rubicon area.
