So the long drooled-over Detours bling finally arrived recently. I first emailed Mark over a year ago, jonesing for a Slimline. Couldn't afford it, but I know quality stuff whenI see it. So I waited, read all the Detours threads, visited the website weekly & waited some more while counting my pennies. Heh, well now the wait is OVER!!

It arrived amazingly well packaged and very heavy. Due to my stupidity I ended up having to load it into the Durango by myself. Not cute.
First looks after ripping off the cardboard ... shrinkwrap!!!

Got rid of the shrink wrap ...

I wasted no time painting it ... Krylon Satin Black on the outside, flat black for the underside. I used 5 cans of the stuff, no clear coat because 1) I don't want it shiny; 2) I'm still debating whether I want to paint it body color later to preserve the factory Limited paint scheme. It came out beautifully.

Okay so to go get it mounted! No, Tony, I didn't do it myself :p . All in the same day, I also needed to get the quarter panel armor riveted on. I had no time to waste ... a lot going on in my life right now ... and it ain't all good. Plus, my trip was a day away & I still had death wobble to find and fix. Anyway, first I had to remove the plastic molding and half of the rear flares (for the armor).
Here she is in her naked glory ... :D

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1434/reard.jpg

And oh ... did I mention the bit of carnage that made the Slimline win out over the Tailbone? Crunched lower quarter. I have no idea when/where it happened :rolleye0012:

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/6092/carnage.jpg

And some of the smaller reasons for needing upper quarter armor. Trees like to sneak out & smack my XJ in the rear end:

First Look - lights not yet installed due to lack of time:

Sorry, I didn't have time to take pics between bumper installation & the armor:
So ... In the WAWA parking lot on the way home :cool0010:

Put the Swampers back on, and here's the whole package at Rausch Creek last weekend!

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/1577/naction.jpg

Next: Well, I don't like the look of all those shiny rivets, so I'll probably paint them black. I still gotta put the flares back on (That'll be a pain because I used 3M tape, not screws). Install the backup lights in the bumper. Finish adding the 2 other lights on the rack. Maybe use the Carr light bar, maybe not. Definitely add a fairing. blah, blah, blah. But so far I'm liking the look.

It never ends, does it?

You mention the "death wobble" but you didn't say if you found the problem and fixed it or not.

I think that Jeep looks good, but it would look a whole lot better with a xjtalk sticker on it. Wait, you have one don't you?

Hey does that bug thing you had hooked on the bumper work?

I like that bumper, better than my homebuilt one. I guess those are TJ flaires that you have on the XJ. They are a nice fit. Did those quarter guards also come from Spanky's place of business? That make your Jeep stand out. Me likey!!!

Hey StationWagon,Good job and slick looking setup.......I like it.........Bob.......
Thanks Bob!

You mention the "death wobble" but you didn't say if you found the problem and fixed it or not. Yes, found the problem & got it fixed at around 7pm the night before my trip. It was all due to motor mounts: both on the driver side were busted, at first I had found just 1, but closer look revealed the other. The 20 minute drive home convinced me that it was fixed, and the 5 hr. drive to Rausch proved me right! Lucky break :smiley-gen165:

I think that Jeep looks good, but it would look a whole lot better with a xjtalk sticker on it. Wait, you have one don't you?
Oh wait ... I better go back & update my "Next" list. All the rush-rush before the trip left no time for stickers. This has been added to my to-do list.

I don't think NAXJA would ask me about you, they don't know there's a "connection".

I dunno, it might ... jury's still out :p .

Thanks, yeah, I love the TJ flares, one of my favorite mods. The quarter guards came from a company called Total Fab Soutions. (http://www.totalfab.net/) Click on "Products". Excellent product & service. Heck the guy even refunded me $50 after I had received the guards because he had found a steel supplier that was less expensive. Out of the blue. How sweet is that? And they're the only guards I have found in my searches that extend as far up towards the window. I love them, I deliberately tried to lure some trees at Rausch, but it didn't work because the trails are so wide. :rotfl2: I'll have some poser shots after I clean her up and add the "finishing" touches.

Great news about the death wobble. I didn't know motor mounts would do that, but I guess with that heavy shifting weight...

Thanks guys & Melissa. It's been a long time getting there. My neighbors just shake their heads, and I don't even take it around the family any more. They just don't get it. I'm not quite done building it yet ... but that's another thread :p .

No word from Uncle Spanky? You do excellent work sir ... fits like a custom made glove!
By the way Mark, we were unable to beat the dent out of the lower quarter, but the bumper fit anyway. It was squished in, not out.
