So this morning as I drive the jeep up the hill to work, I see smoke coming out from the steering wheel....
It looks and smell like exhaust fumes (Good I drive with the windows open;))

First time I notice that and it definitely coming from the dash and also seem to be there only when I go up that little hill....

Strange I guess I have to dig up a bit more

Rusty floor? Hole?

not sure, most probable.... but it really look lik eit is coming from the steering wheel.... and I couldn;t reproduce it when on the parking lot....

if it was not a dangerous issue... dangerous as in me breathing exhaust fumes, I would just put it on the strange things my jeep does in certain conditions....
Guess Ihave to look if nothing is rusty or if there is no hole behind the dash or whatever ;)

first off I'd say check the exaust manifold both at the head area and the tailpipe connection. The firewall has a few gromets in it that could leak, Like the steering column thru point. First thing is to find what is leaking the exaust fumes so they can come inside.

Oil can drip (especially under load) on the exhaust cross pipe and create a lot of smoke. So what looks like exhaust is oil burning. A hole might direct it in the manner you mentioned.

I have a similar problem, but mine is caused by bad oil blowby. Part of it is my fault for eliminating the breather lines going back to the airbox and putting breather filters on my valve cover, they just get saturated from all the blowby and drip on the exhaust. I'll fix it one of these days, till then I'll just drive it with at least one window cracked lol. :driving:

are you familiar with electrical burning??? it has a unique smell to it that might be mistaken for exhaust....
you MIGHT invest a little time in inspecting your wires PRIOR to having THIS happen to you

silly question, do you have a cabin filter? sometimes people take them out,(dumb previous owners and oil techs are famous for that) or you just might need a new one, simple easy fix

cool advices....
looks like Toebees is on the right track ....

it actually started when I tried to mess with the valve cover....I wanted to see if by eliminating the breather line to the airbox and put an breather filter I would get the oil blow by to reduce (I don;lt have much)...

Anyway, I didn;t see any oil in the breather filter or anywere else for that matter but I reversed everything and this morning, no smoke...

So before I rejoice in victory, I will wait and see if it is fixed for now ;)
