Jim,

You hardcore guys are probably having a good laugh at us since we didn't really do anything but get those vehicles dirty and drive around the dirt. ;) We had to promise not to damage them since they were due to appear at a large media event in Dallas this weekend. So we gingerly tooled around in them and had our fun. There was just something high schoolishly silly about taking two $100k luxo SUVs off-road and it had to be done.

We said we really need to make some friends in the off-road community since we get Jeeps and Raptors and things of the sort to play with all the time, but don't ever really have any friends in the community to come guide us out there and play around with. Most of our tests are done in high end sports cars out at John Hennessey's facility or MSR Houston.

That said, we all agree that off-roading is WAY more fun than playing around on the track and hope to make some off-road friends in the Houston area. We've got a 2011 JK Wrangler on loan from Jeep this week so we're going to go play with it at Creekside on Sunday. Here's a photo from the last time we had a Wrangler/Raptor back when Spring Creek was open :)

Very nice of you to stop by and post up. It was a good article, which I am still reading.

I took a test drive of a 2001 Dodge Viper a number of years ago now, and when I was about to leave the relative safety of the dealership parking lot the full $85k price of this vehicle I didn't own, yet I was responsible for made me stop, think about what I was doing. Take a deep breath then pull out on to the I-10 feeder. The salesman (in the passenger seat) said, "I want to go fast!" :smiley-laughing021: We did!

So I understand how difficult it must have been to take such expensive vehicles off road.

No stock off road vehicle, short of a H1 Hummer, it going to be able to match the performance of an even inexpensive modified off road vehicle. At least in my opinion.

Thanks again for stopping by and please feel free to drop in anytime.

Thanks for having us... like I said, we've been looking to find some off-road friends to have fun with when we're out there and it looks like quite a few of you are from the Houston area. Hope to stay in touch and see if we can come check out any of the various events you guys have. If you guys are out at Creekside and see some amateurs out there looking like idiots in vehicles with Manufacturer titled license plates... that's probably us. Stop by, say hello, and pull us out :)

Hey I'm the same way. I took my XJ out there 3 times, bent the rocker and now I'm not going back until I get sliders. :D

I just follow rguginard, bigjim350 around and if they make it I'll go for it too!

My XJ is my daily driver so I take it easy(ish).

xjtalk is a world wide site. We have members in Austraila, New Zealand, Mongolia, Japan, Germany. There are a few of us in the Houston area too.

rguignard, BigJim350, msmoorenburg, live close to Creekside Edge, and I know they are happy to wheel with anyone (as am I when I go). So do what I did and get up there when they go and follow them!

BTW, everyone is welcome here. Jeep Cherokee ownership isn't necessary!

Hmmm I'll look for you on sunday then. Only problem with creekside is that its one of those "once you've done it you've done it" kind of places. Hopefully it pours some rain soon, then that'll change some stuff up.

Well the main thing I was laughing at was 2 $100k plus rigs wheeling in Splendora. Hell the police station there didn't even cost that much. I think me and Rene are gonna try to go out there this Sunday. But be warned im pretty good at talking people into doing stupid things, but don't worry I will try it first :D I'm sure me and Rene and a few others know every single inch of that place out there now, and would be glad to show you around and spot ya on the trails anytime.

Ill go.... I gotta test out my 231 case... and Ive always wanted to wheel with a rover! I watched a video on those a few years back and oddly enough the words I muttered was " those things are UNDER priced"

Made it out there yesterday and Stephen who is a reader of this board with a Black 2DR JK came out to meet us. He was an invaluable trail guide and can't thank him enough. Have a lot of photos to go through but we had a blast. Thanks again.
