Today driving home it was around 91 degrees, they were calling for a high of 96, I dunno.

I got home ran in and got the IR temp gun, and shot the hood. Hottest spot was 154 degrees. The thermostat housing was 205, and the hottest spot on the inside of the hood was 164 degrees.

Yes the hood was very hot to the touch. The temp ranged from about 120 degrees to that 154 I was speaking about before.

He's more interested in the hood scoop. It's more $$ but looks badass.

I used to have a cowl Induction hood on my suburban, But I can guarntee that it was not for venting, I just thought It looked good!! I have thought about a cowl for my xj, but I'm getting hood vents and I think I'll really like them.

I am sure that was true on your Suburban, however GOJEEP says it is different for the XJ. http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoBonnet.htm

Just heard from TC on the NAXJA forum who had added a bolt on induction scoop that was similar and recorded a drop of 70*F in under hood temperature compared to before. He now records only 20*F above ambient under the hood instead of 90*F! That has got to help not only cooling but a drop in intake temperature ( equals more power as every 10*F drop in intake temp = 2hp from memory ) as well as extending life of other components like batteries which are known to have a longer life in cooler temperatures. Even plastic and rubber parts etc. would be better off!

mine gets hotter than heck too.

I did the hillbilly cowl induction (spacers in the back) and noticed a little difference but not enough to make me wanna spend 300 bucks on a new hood and only half 1/3 to a 1/2 as much opening.
