The following is a suggested install for Detours A~Pillar Light Bracketry. (XJ)

Prior to installing, be sure to paint your brackets with a quality product, we suggest Duplicolor or Plasticoat brand products.

1. Decide how high or low you want to mount your brackets. (this install is 4 inches from the bottom of the a-pillar)

2. Position bracket on a-pillar in the desired location. Mark the holes using a marker or punch.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Detours/APILLARDETOURSUSACOM/step202.jpg

3. Drill the holes. Start with a smaller bit and work your way up to a size 1/4” size bit. Make sure the drill bits you have are long enough to go through the entire a-pillar.

4. Do a quick test fit to make sure everything lines up with the brackets and the holes you just drilled.

6.The center hole within the bracket is provided so that you can run your wires down thru the a pillar. After checking fitment, drill this hole if you choose to run your wiring in this manor.

7. It is a good ideal to use some type of paint to touch up the 3 holes drilled into the a-pillar just as a good precautionary step to assure you will not have any rust problems down the road

8. You now need to run the wires through the middle hole in the a-pillars and then slide the wires through the bracket and go ahead and mount the bracket but do not tighten.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Detours/APILLARDETOURSUSACOM/step208.jpg

9. Tuck all the excess wires behind the plastic trim inside the cabin of your XJ as you reinstall your interior trim.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Detours/APILLARDETOURSUSACOM/step209.jpg

10. Run a thin coat of silicone on the edges of the bracket. (You will need to remove the bracket but should not have to re run the wires through the bracket because you should have plenty of play in the wires. Mount the bracket back on and tighten down the bolts.

Install light and continue on to the other side.

This install has proven to be weather tight after testing in rain/snow/freezing conditions over a 4 month period, it continues to be weather tight. Please take your time and measure twice, drill once. Follow all lighting manufacturers wiring instructions.

So I gotta a question... I finally have all my stuff together to install my lights...

I removed the inside molding from the a-pillar and wanted to know how exactly yall drilled through... The install shows just to drill the hole through from the outside but by looking at it it looks like the inside of the apillar is not parallel to the outside so the nut would tighten up on an angle.... for yall that have done the install what exactly did yall do or do you have pictures from the inside of how it looks? Let me know what you think

The nut was somewhat at an angle but wasn't too bad. Here is the only pic I have right now. It kind of shows the angle, I will try to get a better pic this evening.

Okay well Its been more than a few days and I took some pictures with my phone... In my opinion, the glare doesn't show up very well because, well, there isnt much lol (These lights are spots so I would assume that floods would have more noticable glare

I'm having a problem with my installation and I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. Here's a mock up.

It's my understanding that the rubber isolaters are supposed to go one on top and one on bottom of the bracket, correct?

There's not enough space under the bracket to fit the isolater. Am I installing the lights on the brackets wrong?

I see the problem now. you'll have to trim one so it will fit above and below the bracket

The above doesn't look like it'd be a problem. It's the below.

You have the two rubber metal pieces together, they need to be on each side of the bracket.

One will have to be trimmed so it will fit where the nut is. Make sense?

That's what I assumed. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right before I started hacking on things.

Tim, I see what you are getting at and I agree, I do not see why the top rubber would need to be trimmed, only the bottom on to clear the bracket.

If you do a search for Jeep Cherokee A Pillar Light mounts you will see that most everyone uses slim light types with a bolt and bracket at the bottom rather than the big lights with the rubber isolators and I think you found out why...

No big deal. I just wanted to check before I screwed something up.

I may put the KC's on my bumper and put the cheap HF lights that are on the bumper on the A Pillars because they won't require any trimming.

I say forget the bottom isolator, its not gonna be much good once you trim it that much anyway. Just go with a flat washer with maybe a rubber washer if you want it to have some give.

I have two sets of KC lights. One is long range the other is flood. They are both full sized (I don't see the sense in the thin ones) so all four had isolators. I believe they are there to help protect the bulb from vibrations. At least that was my assumption. I was thinking all the KC's had those hard rubber rings.

My long range Pro-comp lights have them as well.. and I agree on protection from vibration.

I mounted kc slim lights on mine. They didn't have the rubber isolators. I havent noticed any vibration issues or other performance issues with them. I think if you wanted those ones on the barcket it would be okay without the bottom isolator.

I have 2 6" KC lights on my bumper. I lost the bottom isolaters so I just bolted them to the bumper with out the bottoms. They have been on for a 2 year now and haven't had any problems.
