My wife and youngest daughter were at an High school event today, so I took the opportunity of the empty garage to put on the Ironman4x4fab.com lower control arms.

Once I was done I was pretty hungry so my oldest daughter and I went to Red Robin for a burger, two actually.

As we were leaving the parking lot two kids (they looked like they were 16 to 17 years old) noticed my Jeep, not unusual. :rotfl2:

The older looking one seemed to perk up and rose to his feet. There were both sitting on the curb next to the main road. Even though we were next to one of the most popular "illegal" off road sites it didn't dawn on me that they may have an off road problem.

As it turned out they did, and it was in that illegal area.

They had been stuck for about two hours. The younger of the two owned the XJ and had high centered the front trying to go through ruts made by a much higher vehicle.

I broke out the tree saver and a large "d" shackle and the older boy hooked it up to the front axle.

We hooked up the winch and started dragging my Jeep to his. That stock 2001 XJ didn't move an inch!

They tried jacking it up high enough to get a board under the driver's side front tire, but the factory jack wasn't enough even for this STOCK XJ!

I moved my Jeep behind them and tried pulling them out backwards.

Since they had already dug a grove with the Dana 30 pumpkin I was able to pull them backwards and to traction.

There were completely out, free in clear. The owner, and smaller of the two go into the driver's seat. His friend joined him, sitting on the passengers side.

To my amazement he floored the Jeep and plowed straight ahead! Going right back where he was stuck for the last TWO hours!

He made it an addition 10 feet that he had during the first attempt and was stuck again.

His friend and I chewed his a$$ for the next 10 minutes. We hooked the winch back up and drug his a$$ out again. This time the friend confiscated the keys and drove the Jeep out.

I warned them both that I was done and if they wanted to play they were welcome to, but I was leaving. :patriot: :rotfl2:

I spent about the next 15 minutes getting everything put up and the winch line spooled back properly and my daughter and I left. I didn't see them again, but then again I didn't look for them.

I gave them several cards, so they may show up on here. If they do, give um hell boys! :D

They're good guys, but the 2001 XJ owner needs some guidance, he's got the "I can do it!" down already.

I had a similar thing happen up at Hoo Doo Oregon. We were traveling on eight feet of snow on a two track made by a snow cat that served a youth camp. We were all in a line and doing fine when the guy behind me gets into his F150 and says "I'm going to take the lead". He made it about five feet into the soft stuff and there he was. I had the only recovery gear, a chain and come along. I worked my behind of getting him back on the track. Then he jumps in again and says the same thing and does it again. So I worked my behind off again, getting really skinny back there, and then told him that if he did that again I was leaving him. He never went wheeling with us again. I didn't miss him.

Well at least this guy was young and didn't know any better. Great learning experience.

I learned I need a 30 or 40 foot strap to go along with my stuff and a high lift jack and wheel straps. We would have had it out forward in a few minutes as there was LOTS of 2 x 12 pieces of wood just laying around.

He did try to give me all the money he had after getting stuck the 2nd time and I told him "You have about a 50/50 chance of me leaving or helping you!"

I refused the money of course. Great experience for me and I get to use my expensive toys.

BTW Steve, I have a policy. You get it stuck, you hook up the stuff for me to pull you out! I also warned them that I wasn't responsible for any damage that occurred during the recovery. I may start getting video of that part of the conversation if this happens again.

My policy too. Guys like that with no recovery points are why I have short chains on my recovery strap. It is better to get them greasy than the strap.

I always tell them.... ( if I wont accept cash from em) WHY ARE YOU WHEELIN STOCK???? a STOCK XJ is for wheelin where 4wd is needed in areas like snow n such... not in the deep mud and DEFINTELY NOT where this occured... this is a HIGH TRAFFIC POLICE AREA... Ive been wheelin out there a few times and been lucky but its RIGHT NEXT TO MAIN ROADS and NO COVER!
your a sitting duck if you get spotted by a cop theres a 1 mile road around this little place I live RIGHT NEXT TO THIS PLACE! about one mile!

You get a high lift, you will be looking for a place to put it.

I already have a place, it will bolt to the Safari rack in the cargo area.

Mine rusts up pretty quickly so keep that in mind Tony. Maybe a cover or a more frequent lubing would help.
Last time I had to work on it for half an hour before it was functional. That was embarrassing to say the least.

Yeah Mark "Detours" told me the high lifts were dangerous enough without leaving them in the weather all the time. So when I saw that Rene had his bolted in his cargo area I figured that's where I'd put mine. Then I got the cargo rack and the previous owner had a high lift mount point on the rack it became a no brainer what I needed to do.

^^^^ ya I got knocked in the face one time letting it down.. thought I had enough leverage to let it down. man was I mistaken...
I just helped my brother move and he was going to throw one away because it did not work. I oiled it up and jacked up the jeep, worked just fine. now where to put it.
