97-01 XJ Latch for Hatch

I am looking for one of these:

My rod strips, falls out of the holder and doesn't allow my hatch to open. This is the second time I am having to replace it. I think I paid $10-$15 shipped for the last one I bought, so would ideally like to stay in that price range.

yeah my tailgate handle just started messing up! how did you get to the handle without it opening?

I climbed through the back, cut a hole in my panel and pulled the rod up and opened the hatch. I have been running without the panel for like 2 years now because I never know when it isn't going to open.
Another person suggested I buy a new handle, apparently they come with a different rod holder and work much better. I just ordered one so I will report back when I get it put on rather it works or not.
