So I was reading somewhere (can't remember where I found it) about replacing the stock radio antenna with a CB antenna. Saw that Sirestik makes a splitter that allows you to use one antenna for both the CB and stereo. As I have really no knowledge about CB's (except I turn mine on and talk on the trails) I am needing help figuring out what hardware I would need to make the replacement work in the stock radio antenna location. Any help would be great. Thanks. :patriot:

Ok after some reading I've decided to just get a new CB antenna and not go the splurged route. I'm wondering along with the antenna will this kit be all I need or is there anything I'm missing?

Several people have build a metal bracket that bolts to the body behind the tail light. You may not be concerned about putting holes in your rugged vehicle, but of course the benefit of doing this is you can remove, or move, the antenna later, and you will not leave any visible holes.

I mounted mine here. Back P side corner with a larger back plate for suport. This gives you room to run the 50' of coax to run to get your 52 ohms for yer SWR's.
If you go this route, be sure to use a good silicon sealer on the mount. Keeps the water from rustin yer shit.

Thanks for all your help guys. Here is what I decided to do:
My CB is mounted on the center console on the passenger's side. I ran the cable under the passenger seat and under the side molding near the floor. Then I ran it under the rear seat and under the carpet in the cargo area to the rear. I then took the rear side molding where the spare tire holder is screwed into. I found a plastic cap near the light housing that I went thru. Maybe a little water will get in but I don't really care. I then cut a little hole in the plastic near the bumper.

I mounted the antenna with a flat bracket under the bumper cap and drilled a hole thru the bumper cap so the antenna wad somewhat protected. Here are some more pics.

You have that mounted to ground right? The bracket must be grounded.

The bracket is attached to the bumper.

I use a different antenna for CB and FM.

Reason - Downloop can sometimes create interference. Having a separate antenna for each ensures that your antenna doesn't pick up back waves. Not all systems have their antenna impedance matched with that of the receiver so there is ALWAYS back waves present and this can degrade the reception. In this case your antenna also acts as a transmitter. And not to mention the leakage current....

Take my advise ....use a separate antenna. Wont cost much and will give you a better reception.

Hope this helps

I agree with Mark, use seperate antennas, the only time I've ever heard of a shared antenna working well was a guy that installed radios for a living, he said it took him a day to get both working well.

I say delete the AM/FM or run 2 antennas. My AM/FM would be gone but been to lazy to grind down a socket to remove that strange nut its held on with.

Even at that you have a loss of power due to heating from the electronics involved to keep things separate. When you only have 4 watts a little loss is a lot. Oh and add an illegal amplifier to the mix and you'll loose the electronics and your "good time" radio. ;)
