Went out and bought these... And what I did was put the flush fluid in the radiator and run motor for about 15 minutes

Open package and find the right size T fitting for the hose and cut the highest point of the heater hose and add the T fitting on and tighten clamp that comes with the kit...

http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0958.jpg
Remove the cap from the T fitting and put on the adaptor that came with the kit and put the water hose to it

http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0962.jpg
Also put on the this yellow flower thing on the radiator

http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0961.jpg
Start your jeep and turn on the heater on high and then turn on the water hose to fluch out the nasty shit
http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0965.jpg
Ran it for about 10 minute til the water started to come clean...
http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0967.jpg
I turned off the motor and pulled the drain cap off the radiator and drain all the water out and then turned back on the water and started the motor again and let it flush out for another 5 minutes to make sure all the water was clean
http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0968.jpg
http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0969.jpg
Once its all clean I recapped the plug after all fluid was drained and started to add the Antifreeze and water til it started flowing out of the T fitting
http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0970.jpg
http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab165/punisher1_972/IMG_0971.jpg
Replace the cap and fill you overflow tank and you are ready to go...

Nice writeup... I am going to have to do this shortly... I wish I had a driveway I could just let that coolant run down... but unfortunately it would just stick around under my Jeep in my gravel driveway..I need to flush the heater core separately for now though.. just to get heat again... then once I know I can get the water flushed out and coolant added before it freezes, I'll flush the coolant...

Does anyone know if the flush stuff is any less effective if I put it into really crappy looking coolant?? Or do I need to drain the old stuff out, then fill it with water, add the flush stuff and then let it run for 15min, before flushing the stuff out?? Only reason I ask... is I'm trying to figure out if or how I can flush my coolant system while it is still colder than hell outside...

Well for your sake in the cold weather what I would do is drain most of it out then fill it with the flush fluid and add the rest water and start it and leave it running for about 15 minutes it takes time for the water to freeze anyhow...

Yeah def. was... I don't think my brother in-law used any antifreeze, Just straight water...
Not like you need antifreeze in florida but I like to use it as if it was to have a leak I could smell and see that it is the coolant problem...

I can only imagine what mine will look like when I flush mine... just waiting on it to be a bit warmer out.. so I don't have straight water freezing in my engine while I flush it... My flush kit is blue... does that make the process any different??? LOL... JK.. it is blue... but I know that doesn't make the process any different...

I can see that, I'd use it still there as well. I'd hate to lose an engine to a freak cold storm that drops below freezing. That and it also helps with the boiling point.

Great write up...I'll have to look into it a bit more and see if I can use this on my 89's cooling system.

Maybe i could just add the Flush stuff right to the water reservious bottle which is the highest point, and unhook a hose, just dunno which hose would be the Outgoing "crap" hose. .........Also..........Theres no risk of cracking the head? with cool fauscet water going straight into the block? thats always my biggest fear, I bet my block is FULL of crap.

Great post, I like the "flush adapter" that you were using (no such thing in Israel).
One thing that I think should be mentioned, try to drain the old "water" to some kind of bowl or something or wash it from the floor.
Cats and dogs will try to drink it if it is on the floor (the Anti freeze is sweet...) and it is a poison.

Terriffic how to, that's what xjtalk is all about. The 4.0 is famous for trapped air in cooling system. another way to burb it is to drive up a steep incline and stop when rear wheels start the incline and rev it a couple of good times. Some times you can get a false reading on temp gauge because there is a pocket of air in the thermostat housing happens every time I do a coolant change. Red line has premixed coolant with water wetter additive or your antifreeze and a bottle of redline's water wetter makes a difference worth the few bucks extra especialy if you live where it bakes in the summer. I swear by the stuff.

Nice write up !! I will have to add that you should always keep an eye on those kits , I have seen them leak at the t connector quite frequently. Lastly the easiest way to "burp" a 4.0 is to remove the temp sender in the back of the manifold. You get a good clean fill this way and you know that the back of motor has coolant. I still recomend if you dont remove the temp sender to run it,cool it several times in short increments adding fluid as needed to get it correct.

would this work for the 90 Renix motor i have? i should prob change over to the newer style cooling system...

It will work on the renix system but I wouldn't recomend it. Convert to a newer system or do the Moroso rad cap in the top rad hose conversion (easier and cheaper) then you would be ok.

This was a great write up. I did mine today and it already made a difference in the cooling temp. One thing I recommend is flushing out the resivor. I guess the guy that I got the jeep from did mostley dirt roads cause there was some debris in the bottom of the resivor. I disposed of the coolant properly then flushed everything out with a high pressure nozzle.

Awesome write up, I'll need to do this soon, I've been running a few months without filling up the resevoir and it's empty 2 days after I fill it up, but there are no leaks and I don't think it's burning because exhaust is normal. But when I open the rad cap it's packed with rusty mud colored crap. No overheating problems so far so I need to diagnose it I don't want to have to get a new cooling system or ruin the engine

This will have to be the next thing to be done on mine, its a bright orange/rust color, and the resivor is full of who knows what, compliments of WV. This should help though.

I just used the water hose to flush mine out. Took about 3 different days to get it all out. It's probably time to do it again, but I'll have a new engine soon...

what if we have the closed system? will it still work? I would hate to just let all the nasty water drain out of the coolant tank all over my wires, any thoughts on this? nice write up by the way...thanks!
